Note that it's designed so that the corner module can be omitted if necessary, say at a show where space is limited. One of the two staging yards ends up shorter than the other without the corner, but it's not a huge problem that I can see.

I keep struggling with that too but I think the drawing's boundaries are for drawing purposes only and do not reflect wall placement of the room.

LOL, nice.  Add some trees and ground cover color to that diagram, mock up 2-3 photos (or use photos from the old layout) and you have the makings of an article for Model Railroader!

You might consider dropping the staging down a bit and vault the scenery over it, with the backdrop at the very back edge. You could grab some depth really cheap and make for a scenery spectacle.
