Kato's Penn Central E8 and passenger set plus two BLMA G31B gondolas!



So for schnitzengiggles I set up the BLMA PRR G31B gon with the ESM G26.  Both are comparable in detail and finish (obviously I need to whip out the airbrush on the BLMA gon).  Note how low it sits.



Two correct to prototype Pennsy gons.  What an awesome time to be in N scale!

I am going to try to build some auto frame loads for my Pennsy gons. The AMC plant on the Beer Line received these from the PRR.

Got my PC train a few days ago. Have the loco, two Walthers and a Kato car sitting on a piece of track, representing an Empire Service train. Have an order in for two Con cor Budd diners. Layout planned for later this summer/fall. Waiting on the BLMA gons. Life is indeed good. Enjoy, folks.

I should mention the trucks and metal wheelsets on the BLMA gon are beyond awesome.  While the gon body is on par with ESM (although the drop ends appear to be fixed in place), the trucks and wheelsets really up the ante.  Slowly and expensively I see myself phasing out the foobs in favor of these sorts of gems.

Loaded up some Gons for the show here in Atlanta this weekend. They are REALLY sharp!! Talk about hitting a home run!!

Wouldn't have been too outlandish in the fictionalized version of events that was in Model Railroader's 50th Anniversary edition (January 1984), when a couple of MR staffers supposedly found 4-4-2 No. 1 in an old enginehouse in the northern part of Wisconsin, rebuilt it, and operated it, sending it all over the country.  In reality, MR built HO, N, and O scale models of No. 1 and sent them around the U.S., L'il Puddy-style, and many popular layouts of that time were featured with the Hiawatha Atlantic hauling excursion trains.  PC cars wouldn't have been too much of a stretch in the early 1980s, if you buy into that alternate version of the Hiawatha timeline.

That MR issue is still one of my favorites.
