Started shopping for feeder/bus wires, solder and flux, but that does not make for a good visual.. so here is a video i shot of a test run across the bridge.

I am hosting an operating session in two weeks, the first one where we will run with a dispatcher under TT&TO.  To date the sessions have been governed by TT with Mother-may-I when needed.

In preparation I constructed a sheet metal "pigeon hole" board for passing paperwork from the dispatcher area to the inside of the train room.  The Dispatcher can place Terminal Clearances and Train Orders for crews in the correct slots of the pigeon hole and the crews, either waiting for clearance or as directed by a TO signal respectively, can then pick them up from the other side.  I will be implementing a simple TO signalling system (and eventually semaphores).  The combination of these items should allow me to implement TT&TO without any TO operator roles.


This is a close up of the Train Order and Terminal Clearance Pigeon Hole Board from the Crew side. Botton two rows are terminal clearances for Nelson yard and the off-layout staging yards/tracks. The three rows above these are for the 6 TO stations on the layout (one for each of westbound and eastbound trains), and the top row is a spare for now.


Another project completed this week was rebuilding the Castlegar control panels.  Two new Castlegar panels replace the 3 previously there. These new panels are larger, angled upwards to aid viewing from above, and more closely represent the actual track configuration at Castlegar.

I am amazed at how long it takes to decal a set of modern freight cars.  I managed to get in two hours each of four nights this week and all that time was required just to apply the dimensional data (12 decals per car) and reflectors (another 12 per car):




I still have a ways to go . . .

Dave:  Beautiful model work AND photography - makes me want to visit the eastern U.S. which I have never seen.

Andy:  That looks fabulous - can't wait to see it in person.

Mark:  The new panel looks good - I can imagine how much work that was.  Should make the Kraft job a little easier.

yes, I am still alive - yes I am fine - yes all is well and slowly I am back on track (and slowly catching up with everything laying unfinished on my workbench)...

Atlas BN B30-7A (yes, the handrails were a pain but after I've seen here on this forum how it's done I thought I give it a try)





and after all this time away I still think the Atlas C40-8W are crap...
...but with a bit of patience and a lot of swearing they can be turned into this

I finally have something .. this is a Walthers Cold Storage kit ..

I unfolded it, and spliced the back wall into the front wall ..  for the back wall, I cut a piece of foam core to length, and covered it with styrene from a "for sale" sign ..  I think it makes for a more believable industry ..

Paint is rustoleum camoflage tan .. it sort of looks like concrete ..  still need to add details, such as the fire escapes on the side, roof condenser, and plant the foundation ..

The bar has been set high this week...yessh!

Finished the second 60' baggage express car and npw both are in service...





Aded a Great Northern BSB mail - storage car; these actually got painted in the BSB and, believe it or not, BN colours... This is "close enough for me" vsrsion, as the door spacing isn't right for this series but strangly enough the car is a GN model, bu of another, earlier series... oh well.... changed the doors, added the brakeman's compartment and so on...



Here she is being shunted at Samuel Ridge....

Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!
