Early tank car information

I just got my copy of the new Morning Sun book "Tank Cars Color Guide Vol. 1" from Chuck Macklin at railroadbooks.biz. It's a beauty.

It also includes a couple shots of wooden pickle cars, a number of helium and liquefied gas car photos, and a few of the chlorine cars like the one TrainCat's released.

Anyone looking for reference photos on full center sill tank cars should pick this up right away!

I just picked up my copy over the weekend. I'll second your recommendation. If you like Tank Cars, you are gonna want this book. Even if you don't need it, buy it. Schemes galore and while the info on what was carried is spotty, the info is great.

Now if we could just get somebody to do a Grain Hopper series. Pullman Standard would be a volume unto itself.

I'd second the grain car recommendation. Hello Morning Sun? A billboard boxcar one would be light, but I'd love to see it as well - featuring car's like the Hamm's external braced cars and all those private scheme plug door and all-door lumber cars.

Morning Sun has a Pullman Standard Color Guide... not ALL grain cars... but a good start.

It's so rare that you see a Morning Sun book unwrapped and it feels somewhat obscene to do so. Ergo, one can not know what the book contains. I've bought at least two that were disappointing. So for me it's always a roll of the dice, I either buy it sight unoggled or accidentally drop my pocket knife through the wrapping.

Yes it is. Especially for 4427's! There's a couple of 4750 shots in there too, but the time frame the book covered precluded good coverage of those.

4427 pics are what I am seeking! Next time I order from Railroadbooks.biz I'll have to throw that one into the mix.

Another thumbs up for the tank car colour guide. Strangely enough, was I not bent on having the entire Colour Guide collection (I have all of them) it would not have been a book I'd have bought. I don't really run many tank cars.  Yet, upon skiming theough it I found myself strangley drawn to the workbench and was oulling down unpainted tank cars with a mind to modify and paint..... great; more projects !

Really a great edition; looking forward to the second part.
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

I certainly don't have the entire Color Guide series, but I've got all the Canadian ones and the Pullman-Standard one. I'll probably look into the Tank Car book, especially since I model the 1980s and my club models the 1970s. Of course geography means most of the cars in the book might not be useful, but you can get a little flexible when the club layout is modelling the CP transcontinental line.
