The Kaslo one is designed to fit the Bachmann GP40, IIRC  :P

The joys of having a current modeller's licence, I get to play with it until it fits! ;)

Oh and ditto on the parts dept approval - I've had nothing but good service from them.

Though I've never actually completed one (was too afraid of the whole handrail process), I've done the necessary surgery, and the Kaslo cabs have fit the Atlas 40-2 sill and long-hood absolutely perfectly.  Never noticed any overhang at all.

Mebbe I'm also getting confused between the Athabasca and Kaslo cabs... I know one overhangs the GP40-2. Someone please bash a GP40-2L or W so Atlas will announce the W in N  ;D

Probably heading back down to Central Hobbies on the way home tonight, I'll see if they have the SD40-2Ws yet.

Apparently the SD40-2Ws will be in at Central tonight, so I'll scoop one on the way home along with the BCOL hart ballast cars.

My wallet is going to hurt!

So do I get this right. You are going to a real hobby shop to get a first look at a new release? Hmmmm we usually see it online way before that.

Well I emailed them, they tell me they'll be in tonight (Friday is when they do the run south to stock up) so unless they're lying to me, who knows?

Edit -> reread my mail and when the formatting works it's only the hart cars that are in. :(

I'm not an expert by any means on the SD40-2W in CN schemes.  But the test shots and painted samples I've seen over the past 18 months to me have looked very nice.

As long as you don't compare them to a prototype SD40-2W... two big stand-outs are the reuse of the same incorrect DB hatch as seen on the other IM SDs, and the complete lack of any low-profile components, i.e, fans, dustbin hatch, exhaust hatch, engine room vent/winterization hatch.  The good news is that unlike IMs other SDs... not having beads on the blower duct is actually correct for GMDD built SDs.  The single row vented doors are a nice touch, but actually date the model... they were retrofitted to double sets of vents

Around what year(s) would this have taken place? I'm in the 1987-89 timeframe so the dating thing might not be so bad. Yup, odds were if you were looking at a CN GP40, GP40-2L or W, SD40 or SD40-2W you'd see a mix of normal and low pro fans. Odds of seeing a unit with all normal height were not that great, but statisically must have happened, so the IM could pass in that respect... though the other low pro items would not work in that scenario.

Until BLMA does the SD40-2W, these will have to do  ;)

Pictures of IM's new SD40-2W "Tunnel Motors"... web guy is asleep  ;D

http://www.intermountain-railway.com/n/html/69301.htm

I swear the cab-windows are too small, especially the side ones. Will have to measure once I get my hands on some. Same POS mech as the Tunnel Motors from the looks of it... mine will probably get Kato mid-production mechs.

I agree the windows look small, but they appear to match up properly with images and drawings.

I think the problem is that the front windows are missing the characteristic wide black gasket trim around them and the side windows are completely devoid of their normal 'trimmings'.  They don't have the full-length side mirrors on each side of the window, the larger sill on the bottom edge, and the shade along the top.  With all the other details they included, you think they could have at least done a shade (maybe they did and its' in the box, I dunno)

That might be a bit of a challenge, as IIRC the IM shells are "scale width" and the Kato mech is fat. (I hope it works though!)

Wow, IMRs usual bang up job on details and paint.  ::)  Three paint and lettering issues seems to be the running standard (we just went throught this on the M&StL F7 too).

I'll readily admit I know nothing about this locomotive, but is there some alternate prototype that has the front stanchion so far forward?

The stanchion on the side handrail on the nose does look a tad closer to the ladder on the model than the real thing. The stanchions on the anticlimber do come that far forward.
