It's that time of the week again, and I actually have something to show!!!


Finally started some scenery, not as good as some of the guys here, but I'll take it.  :)

It looks better in person (I think) .. but got this just about done for the Baltimore section of the M&O..  still have some touch up to do ..

I had surgery Thursday to repair an inguinal hernia, so I didn't do any modeling this weekend.  However, I had Monday off so I fired up the airbrush.

This was the ExactRail CR Gunderson gon.  It's a total foob, but my LHS gave me a great price on it.  The before shot shows the broken can opener logo:



Here she is after a logo repair and some weathering:



I also weathered my new Athearn PS-2.  I went subtle.  I also added the necessary ACI label above the COTS.



I weathered a few other items, including a subtle grime and fade on this Micro-Trains Southern Pacific double-door boxcar.

The conversion of an Arnold Rapido 0-6-0 into UP OSL 4703 is done .

Good work on the depressed centre flat car - I am hoping Micro-Trains will issue that car in CN some day.


For me, preliminary installation work on the new sections of benchwork continued during this past week.  Here is the upper deck clamped in place for an initial test fit:




The deeper section on the right is for the Kiskatinaw River bridge scene.  Painting of the new sections is now underway, and I was able to get the first coat of primer applied yesterday afternoon.  I hope to get a second primer coat on this morning before heaading out to see the Chilliwack Show.

I finally got around to dropping off the new WRS units a couple weeks ago. Here is Tyler's video. You can also see the WRS patched cars from the 10/3/10 Weekend Update.

Great work gents; Richie that's another beauty......It's been a busy week so all I managed was a weathering job on a new Exactrail hopper..........

Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

Hi Guys...

Another PRR project I have been working on it is a G38 Ore Jennie buitl from an etched brass kit. I figured what the heck I did the G39 might as well do the the rest. I hope to have a G39a built for the weekend update next week.





And great work Richie that is a beautiful steamer thanks for sharing.And great work everyone else!

I got some lower level benchwork up, mostly ripped 2x2s from scrap 2x4s put on shelf standards using a 1 5/8" drywall screw in the front and a 2 1/2" one in the back. More info at my, including an updated.





Hoping to rip some more scrap 2x4 today and trying out a few shelf bracket plans I saw online for building shelves for the upper level and fascia. If I get the two prototypes done, I'll post back with more pics,

I'm shifting from regular human hours to Tuesday-Saturday retail hours...which netted me a nice little three day weekend this week.  Plus, Laura took the kids out of town yesterday, so between beers and Polock Johnnies, I worked on the river scene...

You may recall that for the last 2-3 months it's looked like this...


Well, after sacrificing another big chunk of the Chaffee Branch, I'm happy to report that it now looks like this!








Here's a test shot for another view that I hope will be a show stopper...


It felt good to get back in the train room!

There's an old saying saying that goes:

Or something like that.  :)


After realizing I probably won't be able to do a full weekend show for a few more years and after that layout planning thread about compromise, a gift fell into my lap to bring me back to my roots.



In 1940 the CGWs Idaho crossing was made into an overpass.  This project was more than just a bridge, as it includes a pumping station.  You can see the pump house in this birdeye view.




Here's a profile.




Now when the subject came up about the pump house, I had no idea included in that was the CGW bridge itself.



So I've been working on some scale drawing to see how this all will fit onto a module. 




Here's the actual scene (images are from Brian Chapman)









The only thing right now that needs to be addressed is the turnout on the bridge.  The prototype used a #12 so I can either handlay that or modify the bridge to accept a #10.

I could also use a source for .050" sheet styrene if anyone knows any as the deco bridge piers are on 8" steps.

Finally finished construction of the M&StL 40' ex-auto boxcar with raised Viking roof.  It's going to be a while before painting since the paint booth is currently out of commission, but I can still get a number of rolling stock projects to the pre-paint stage.

Jason,

Assuming you would want some sort of undermount turnout control, if you plan ahead, you could build a hollow pier, which would allow the switch machine throw (wire) to pass through the pier.  All you need to do is align the throwbar over the pier, which appears to approximate where the prototype's throwbar was located.
