I had ordered several buildings for the area around CP 80, and I was able to start building several this weekend. Most are DPM buildings as this is the outskirts of the city so the height is perfect, bringing the roof lines of the background buildigns to about 61-63" from the floor.

I've decided to redo my sidewalks as well as I never really have been happy with them, and they were pretty much just mock ups. I like what Dave has done with his, and may go that route.

One of the buildings I started to build was a brick curtain factory that is located at the west end of the Simonds IT. Its a kitbash of 3 Walthers Brachs Candy Factory kits. These were a lot smaller than I thought they would be. It's been quickly placed on its spot on the layout,so there is a lot of work to be done on the building and scenery still.

You can also see one of the DPM kits up on the hill in the background. I found that it was easiest for me to paint the window color first, and then using a flat Nylon brush, paint the bricks.

I did a model of that building once. It was on my first NTRAK module. After I got rid of the module,  I gave the building to JD and it perished in the fire.
It is a cool structure.

I fired up the new double action airbrush and started a trio of cars for different roads:



Closer examination showed that the blue car will need a second coat so as to be even.  Oh well.

I took the family out to St. Denis and ran in to Carl and CJ (which I assumed I would do).  Stayed for about an hour and saw three trains.  On Sunday, my daughter and I went back to get some more photos.  I discovered that the graffiti on the Juice Train (being applied to smooth white cars) lends itself to great decals.  Using ISO 400 and a shutter speed of 1/1200, I could get great non-blurry shots as the train passed.

Exactly, sometimes N kits bother me in their height and depth. This kit could have easily been 9" wide but Walthers made it like 3"...It was more a background building than anything. When I bought it 4 websites had different measurements for it, so that's why I bought 3 so I knew I would at least be able to build something I wanted in size.  What I should have done is made a wall another story high and then made castings out of it.

I have been liking the Walthers Modulars though. I have been getting them cheap and they are coming in handy for the canyon of buildings needed for the Pemi IT (Kingsbury Branch) Here is a bunch mocked up.






HABS is a great resource, and I use it quite a bit for the layout. I love the photos they have of the Amoskeag Mills in Manchester.
