For me it's been a week of installing foundations, sidewalks and streetlights. It hasn't been easy since all of the streets are sloped.

Oh man, I'm loving the drain grates! ;D

DKS, the sewer gates are really neat.

Cleaned out the workshop area. Then came to the realization of how many detail parts I need to buy to spruce up my locos and cars. Found out I had the gears in my Katos wrong, and cleaned out the trucks of them and a few geeps of Vaseline.

Also found a few cars that have some of my early weathering. Gonna try and remove the old weathering. If not, I'm painting/decaling several cars.

Helped my father get his LTD LX running again.

If N scale had good SD40-2s, C30-7s, U30Cs, SD45s, SD40s, and SW10s; I'd be in N scale.

Slow week..........added a new Miniatures By Eric fuel tank to a C 630............

Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

Took a break from scenery building.  I've long had this crazy idea that, with minimum support, Kato unitrack alone could be used for a helix.  I've been working toward a test bed for some time.  My goal was to get two Atlas H16-44s to the top of helix pulling a 6 ft long train.  I'm pleased to say it works.  17 unmodified (as delivered from factory) cars plus a caboose.  15" radius.  Lots of opportunities for improvements to make the trip easier on the locos too.

Now that the possibility of a multi-level layout is open today I hung the Spencer section high.  Happy times.

Good news on your new house Chris.  Congrats!

I've been making stead progress on something I haven't been discussing much. The other layout in the basement, which will essentially be the Kidney's direct replacement: http://conrail1285.com/news.asp?storyid=68

I got a contract on a house so I'll be moving soon. No modeling for a while.  Good news is that I will now have about 3 times more space for a layout plus a big a$$ garage to cut wood in.

Good for you Chris . My son ( never married ) just moved into a his first house a week ago . He knows how to fix cars ( BMW Mech ) but thats it , so I have been doing the locks , phone , outlets , and other attention needing stuff . Few hours a day when I am free , should take a 6 months with all that needs to be done . Chances are Chris that you will be busy with the house for awhile too .

There was one development that will be conducive to modeling in the coming weeks and months... I got my Blue Mountain Express from the WMRHS, and it is wall to wall photos and scale drawings of company housing, including those owned by coal mines served by the WM, and the WM itself!

This is timely, because I'm beginning to think about what the town of Thomas should look like (around the industry tracks that I have crammed in there, that is!)  Now I know!

David, nice work!!! I'm curious what material you used for the sidewalks, plaster, or styrene?

Great work David.  This looks like it could be North Beach in San Francisco.  Some Beat poets would look right at home there.  8)

Almost nothing for me; house painting, etc. dominates as we prepare to sell.  I did sneak in a bit of time last night to practice my soldering skills on some '70MAC replacement handrails.  Still need more practice...  :(

Thanks, all, for the kudos.

Styrene. Streets, curbs, foundations, everything but the storm drain grates (which are etched brass) is styrene.

Excellent work everyone.

Makes it hard for me to finalize my decision to liquidate my N scale collection to move on to bigger things...

(especially seeing David's stuff although I know it's Z)

It's been almost a year since I have really worked on anything in N.

No modeling for me this week due to the funeral. Just did not have the right mindset.

I did manage some progress last weekend but never got to take any pics. Sorry, I'll try to do better.

Nothing photoworthy. Painted my Walthers Clarksville Station which after much debate will be replaced. The thing is horribly out of scale, it's tall enough to be an engine house, the doors are 3ft wide but 8.5ft tall....winders are 3ft by 7ft. So I'll finish it for project sake, but let it go on here or fee-Bay. In looking for a candidate, I'll probably use the Walthers Golden Valley Station in dk. grey on grey to match the other Walthers items (switch tower/freight depot). Picked up some Bluford Chessie System hoppers, I didnt realize it till I got home that the build/rebuild/transfer dates are 1986, most likely I'll just cash them in for the WM hoppers when they come-in. Did some more researching/looking at houses, watched the Ravens kick the tar out of Denver which made my previous losses alright.
