Just getting back on my feet after a two week bout with the flu.

The final push to complete the benchwork has begun with test fitting and preliminary installation work on the remaining sections.  This includes the drilling of holes for connecting bolts, DCC control and track buses, and LED light runs.

Here is the lower deck section clamped in place for a test fit:

This section has been kept to a width of 12 inches to retain full use of the desk and the bed.  It will accommodate Sundance siding in front and Septimus (north staging) in behind.

Looks like benchwork was happening on both the Dawson Creek and Fort St John subdivisions of the British Columbia Railway this week.  I installed the upper deck backdrop and lighting supports.  The upper deck scene will be the yard at Taylor with a backdrop of the heavily forested hills on the south bank of the Peace River.

Also put some time in applying decals to 766.  Applying individual characters to N scale number boards is never a fun task but it came out well.   Ditch lights, couplers and a spot of weathering are next.

Andy, what do you use for ditch lights?  I had to scratchbuild mine since the Sunrise parts are no longer available.

Thanks,
Ed

I use 'Miniatures By Eric' parts.  They have a wide range of detail parts for N scale locomotives.  There are several ditchlight choices is the 'NL' parts series

Hi, all,

Here's a couple more N scale photos from last week's 2010 SP Historical & Technical Society Convention, that
my friends shared with me:

A cool N scale diorama:

and also, this vendor was advertising some N scale SP kits:

Finally, some may also want to know that We also added some more material to the X2011 West Facebook page:

http://facebook.com/x2011west

that you may find interesting, you can go there and see some Sacramento area layouts
that will be open during X2011 West Sacramento.  There clearly will be N scale layout tours,
I have been told, (I've seen a superb early shot of a N scale SP Northwestern Pacific layout that
I have got to see).... and I will keep everyone updated.

Although these layout shots from Sacramento layouts are HO, they're pretty cool and I thought you'd still like to see
them.  Imagine if this was N scale, what we could do!  :-)

As we get closer, I'll make sure I let the N scale forums here know of any N scale specific things
happening related to X2011 West.    I, for one, am very interested in that.

So, just wanted to let you know......anyone can see the following X2011 West Facebook page,
you don't have to be a member of Facebook, and you don't have to login to Facebook.

http://facebook.com/x2011west

Regardless of whether you can make it or not to X2011 West Sacramento, the goal is to give you useful model
railroading live reporting all year, and to give you real-time reporting during X2011 West July 3-9, 2011.
That's a benefit to all :-).

Thx to all of our fans who have been enjoying X2011 West's Facebook - it's for you that we enjoy doing this.

Enjoy, and have a good week.

Well that seems entirely appropriate as the prototype Fort St. John and Dawson Creek Subdivisions were built simultaneously - in fact they were completed 52 years ago this month.  I am pleased to see your layout progressing; 766 is looking good too.

For me it's been a week of installing foundations, sidewalks and streetlights. It hasn't been easy since all of the streets are sloped.

It'll be more of the same next week; should have them all done by next weekend.

The more I look the more I see Dave , the parking spot ghost lines , crack sealer in the asphalt , stains of various types and colors , curb degradation at joints , wow . Are you going to add some litter here and there ? Was the harder to model sloped streets done by need , or as a choice to create a more interesting visual effect ?

I got a contract on a house so I'll be moving soon. No modeling for a while.  Good news is that I will now have about 3 times more space for a layout plus a big a$$ garage to cut wood in.

Built a railing for mom's garden stairs, and today painted a little on the house.  More decoder jobs coming in...  it's getting to be all I can do to keep up.  Might have to raise the rates again... :o

Zero time for my trains at all. >:(

Yes.

Both. The slope lets the town sit lower on the river end and still hide the helix that runs underneath it. But I would have sloped it anyway to make the town more interesting. Not many eastern towns are dead flat end to end.

Finished one more foundation/sidewalk set since the prior post--this was a tough one since the building sits between two streets with different slopes.

Awesome! Congrats Chris. So now, that means you'll have three times as many layouts, right?
