Mike, if you had to pick one scene to model for the COLA, what or where would it be?  Somewhere in Utah?

The thought of a UP passenger train tearing across Iowa, Nebraska and the lower part of Wyoming doesn't seem conjure up anything inspirational to me.

I can understand the Chicago thing, but aren't all the passenger trains basically part of the scenery in that setting?

I seem to recall the scenery around Council Bluffs was decent.

I live in Nebraska (Omaha) so am familiar with the scenery, but hasten to add that the Cities trains through Omaha came through (as does AMTRAK) westbound and eastbound in the middle of the night. The eastbound Zephyr arrives in the early AM, and so if you want to model Iowa and Nebraska with the City of LA, just turn off the lights!!! <G> OTOH the scenery just west of Cheyenne is some of the most interesting on the RR: Sherman Hill, a demanding stretch of railroad. Steam helpers were the rule, even on the point of passenger trains, up the hill until the death of steam.

Mail out mentions the first run being sold out at the factory, so I guess you can all stop wondering if it was going to be hit or miss.

Nice paint job and windows; still think the ride height could be better if the coupler was body mounted.

If they had the 5 DB sleeper available separately I'd get one as they showed up in Western Canada during summer excursions.

The ride height crept up a bit when they switched to the suspension system.  You can press down on the cars and they look better, but pop right back up. 

To compound the appearance problem, the lack of steps really makes them look like off road vehicles.

I'm thinking of doing a heritage fleet. I have to figure out which cars exactly but it would be a fun project.

Plus that would ensure that Kato announces it at about the exact time I'm half done making them.

I believe the steps are retractable on these cars. The only time you would see them is when the train is stopped at a station and the doors are open.
