Tom,
I love and studied the hell out of your first book. I will second the request for fleet weathering techniques- there are those projects I am willing to work for a month or two but there are others (particularly coal gons) where I am not going to take on each unit but would like to be able to do something quicker but still convincing.
I'd also like to see some trailer and container projects (I find both very challenging to do well, very easy to over-do and also have some trouble with their surfaces for some reason).
I will certainly be a buyer!

So the number one request for the book:  create a DVD instead! ;D

A few responses:

1.  Cost.  In order to drive the cost down to Kalmbach levels, I would have to have 1000 (at least) printed and pay for them up front (in addition to set up fees).  Wasn't going to happen.  The page count/price was determined by self-publishing costs.  Every time someone buys a copy, a printer somewhere actually prints it out for you - this Print on Demand (PoD).

2.  Other things besides freight cars.  Agree, David K. Smith mentioned this while editing the first one and that explains the BLMA bridge photo on the last page.

Again, by publishing techniques I don't mean to imply that I can do it better than anyone else.  It is just that I enjoy sharing and documenting a process that yields satisfactory results.

And the minute you produce a DVD all your 'friends', having no respect for intellectual copyright, will burn copies for all their buddies, driving sales way down. A win for them ... a loss for you.

Actually, with the margins being much better on DVDs, selling half as many of them as books would still be a winning proposition. And there are enough honest folk out there to make it worthwhile. Witness Ed's enthusiastic response above.

Considering the cost/quality of home printing, I'd rather buy a hardcopy book.
