Looks like it's time for my railroad to get at least one "heritage" unit in the form of a GN BSB SD45.  Not a fan of the Hustle Muscle, but love the Big Sky Blue.

For those that don't know, GN #400 "Hustle Muscle" is alive and well.  It spent many years up in the Duluth museum and now resides in St Paul.

And with a fairly recent paint job.

And with a ratchet hand brake on the nose, making the KATO model a foobie. ::)

Kodachrome but not SP?   :-X  That's such a typical Kato decision...

Just think how close we are to be able to recreate such funky classics as this in N:

I wonder if ExactRail will produce the Southern Vert-A-Pacs found in that shot?  It would be great if ExactRail would do the car in the correct SP class scheme as well.

One consolation might be that the new drive's FlexiCoil trucks might be compatible with the SD-40-2 drive...

Odds are that Kato will simply use the DCC version of the SD40 drive (the 90s SD40/45 shared the same drive).

Well they do have all those Algomar Mech sitting on the shelf. ;D

I know the dash 2 versions of SD-40/45 shared the same underframe, but did the original versions?

Good news is the SD45 finally is available again, the bad news, no eastern roads, (no big suprise) mixed emotions here, like coming out of your house and seeing a brand new corvette in the driveway only to find out it`s being driven by your ex wife..

"...and the same fat hoods and skinny number boards you've come to expect from Kato!, yes, in 16 years, we still can't get it right!"

"First time Kato has produced the SD45 since God was a boy"

Yes.  I'm angry and bitter.  One consolation might be that the new drive's FlexiCoil trucks might be compatible with the SD-40-2 drive...  How about that, Conrail Queens?...

Lee

It's funny you mention the Kato N SD45s are fat hoods, because their HO one is a narrow hood ??? (at least the flares anyways; I don't have any Kato SD45s)
Vincent

If N scale had good SD40-2s, C30-7s, U30Cs, SD45s, SD40s, and SW10s; I'd be in N scale.

Would the Amtrak F40's have been wearing that paint scheme 1987-89? They came into Toronto regular on the Maple Leaf... might like one for that service.

I'm betting that it's going to be the "shock absorber" construction/style mechanism????

Then again, I'm not a betting guy , at least not too often.
