If anyone wants to sell one out of their 3 pack let me know. It is a cool car, but I don't need/want three.

These will only be available direct from GHQ?

Chris, I'll have an extra one out of my set.

I recommend reviewing the articles on GHQ.  The list of commodities is extensive and wide-ranging, and the cars were used for far more than goods requiring conventional refrigeration.  Oiled ball bearings, wax paper, ink, candles, turtles and nuts are just some of the common commodities for this car that are not otherwise transported in refrigerator cars.  I know they traversed the New Haven, so I can justify a couple, but it's nice to see that this car can be justified on just about any layout.

It's too bad they backed out on RTR and pad printed lettering. I don't really want to paint and decal anymore. I have about 30 cars painted and don't feel like putting on more decals.  :'( >:(

I'm curious.... and with no malace aforethought; "why not".....? It is "model" railroading. I have exactly the opposite view. I want to model my own stuff. Anyone can buy RTR; only "I" can model for me...that makes my RR diffferent......

I'm not judging; I really want to understand why you'd prefer to buy RTR than model yourself ?

Thanks !

Don't worry. I have done enough n scale kits to earn a merit badge too.  As I stated, I am just sick of doing decals, for one reason or another, and have a hugh backlog of projects I may never get to. If they did these cars RTR (like they said up front), I would probably buy some (maybe not this model, but the NP boxcar for sure).
I've been waiting for years for someone to do a correct NP wood box car, but heck, if one is really the modeler they claim to be, why the need to wait ?   ??? :o :)

Bryan.... I model the Espee Coast line in the '49. Do you  think I have a chances?
The car is nice and I like it, but... in the PFE kingdom?
Just curious if you have some note.

You are not alone in that regard, for sure !

They frequented the Los Angeles area, but probably carrying commodities other than those of a traditional ice reefer.  I would say yes, but if you read the articles you probably will feel more at ease at adding one to your freight fleet.

Here are the three topics on the GHQ site discussing these cars.
These are cars that will fit most era's and railroads from what I can see.

And all this time, I thought the hobby was called model "railroading"...

Seriously, it's super to see these cars and hopefully a string of new things from GHQ.

I'd have prefered slab side covered hoppers, but hey, the refer is a nice to many CN modelers. Too old for my era, though.

I'll second third and fourth that one Mike!!!!! Someone needs to do the slab side cars in both CN, CP, GTW, PGE, BCOR and TH&B. This would be a nice one for someone to do as an etched brass car. Hello Bob  ;) ;) ;D!!!
