Changing Scenery - what would you suggest?

One time Jim Elster at Scenic Express told me the "dirt" they sell comes from the field behind their shop in NJ.

I think they're in western PA, but your point is well taken.

I know the stuff looks good and seems to work well.

BTW, I just received some of your N-scale corn rows.  Very nice!  Wish you would come out with some other N scale goodies!

Agreed.  I would love to have some of those great conveyors you used for the paper mill module.  I need a ton of these for the Specialty Minerals complex on my Housatonic RR.

I can still get the conveyors if you want them. They cost $18.95 per set. I have to order in batches of 6. The orders were so sparse that I just dropped them. If you order 3 or more, I'll send in an order for a batch and keep the extras for folks that ask.

With this renewed interest I wonder if it might be time to revise the artwork?

Bernie, I need at least 32" total of conveyors, so make my order 5 sets.   Revised artwork sounds good too. 

Do you have any of your industrial stair towers still available?

I've been adding a bunch of real dirt to my layout and I thought I'd add to this thread offering a picture of the progress...



I've applied the dirt to much of the area you see in the photo.  On the right I was able to smooth it out quite a bit, while on the left it is much more textured.  That's one advantage of using real dirt as opposed to textured paints... You can manipulate the dirt quite a bit to vary its texture.  It does not have to be "gritty" looking unless you desire that look.

I've been very pleased with it.  One nice advantage is that I don't have to tint it.  The color is a dead ringer.

And to keep it from getting dark and appearing forever "wet" looking, use matte medium as opposed to white glue.  I tested both, and white glue dried much darker.

I use dirt from my yard all the time .. once a year I cook about 3-4 Woodland Scenics shakers full .. put ground foam on top, and you have good looking dirt

It's iced tea season at my house, so I'm taking the spent teabags and busting them open and drying out the leaves...  I guess I should bake them to make them a little less organic...  I'll probably fill a WS shaker bottle by the end of the month.

All that talk of tea makes me wonder if I should be baking my coffee grounds instead of composting them - though my flowers do stand up better as a result!
