I've added a few boxcars to the fleet this week...




worked on the new staging yard...


And started tinkering with an expanded and renovated roundhouse for Ridgeley, based loosely on the Hagerstown Roundhouse....


This is the new profile I'm going for, superimposed over the original Heljan trusses.



Those of you with jobs may not have been such over-achievers this week... ;D

It was pointed out to me by cv_acr Chris that the BC Rail didn't exist in the 50's decade , so I converted it to a USAX TOFC ..

Slow week - bathroom reno and an "attitude adjustment needed six year old" cut into modeling time... Did manage to add a wooden floor to and weather a new Athearn SOO gon.....

Nothing new for me this week, but I did get some railfanning in.

First up, a GG-2 and a UH-1 take on fuel.



And half a century later, a G32DM pulls a load of containers into River City.

Finally got over my cold long enough to work on some trains.  Finished up a CRL C30-7 and a patched UP SD40.

Stripped some Athearn Bombardier commuter cars to paint them up as stand in MBTA Kawasaki cars. They are good "fahnow" cars until someone decides to do them in N in non resin now that I have started them...

Finished all the benchwork on the layout except for the hidden staging yard. Just waiting for more flex track to get going. I may end up building the staging yard this week or next as I plan on using C80 and snap switches for that.

A bunch more Downtown Deco kits have arrived and I'm just mocking them up to see where I want them to go.

I've also started the benchwork for the "mobile version" of the Amoskeag Northern, a 2.5'x10' layout that I can take to shows. This part will be set about 15 miles east of the city, and is in a more rural setting.

With Spring arriving two weeks early, I made use of the outstanding weather and headed up to Allaire, armed with a homemade camera rig so I could photograph the track (the camera is at the very top end of the angled part of the rig). The rig holds my pocket camera aloft directly over and perpendicular to the track, and I shoot a frame every 4-5 feet.



Then I stitched the images together to make templates for tracklaying.



I used a measuring wheel to get accurate dimensions of the track, which allows me to precisely scale the images. For example, the above image is exactly three inches long when scaled for Z.

I had an extra CR unit laying around and thought it would be fun to convert it to CRL.  Did these get the signal box's like the original C30's behind the conductors side on the walkway?  I know most of the CRL versions were previous ATSF C30's that they picked up.

Did some work on the club layout, cutting and laying in roadbed peices for some hidden ramp track; also put together this mockup for size & proportion using foamcore boards of the Sudbury car shop in HO for the club layout:

Not positive, but I'd guess it's around 80-90 pound. Odd, but I hadn't thought to measure it--I guess because I can't do much about the rail weight, model-wise (my Code 25 rail scales up to around 100 pound rail).
