Those are nice, especially the green one's.  Hopefully this special run won't keep someone from doing them on an actual GATC body in the future.

  Yes they are very Cool. If my memory is still good Lionel made one of these cars in the early 1960's. They put a standard single dome tank car body inside a box car. The colors were blue ,white,orange.       Nate Goodman (Nato).

Also, we had a Linde plant in SoCal in Bloomington (near SP's West Colton Yard) that I recall was in some state of flux relative to RR operations around 1980 - either closing the plant or no longer shipping by rail.

I don't remember seeing any without a roof walk .

Not without a roof walk, but here's one listed as '83 (John Hill is pretty reliable for the date).

Being a tank car, there could be reason for the roof walk.  Those white dots didn't come in until the late 70's and you can see the rest of the car was modified with the low ladders on the side and the cross-over railing.  I would expect a low brake wheel an the B end.

Besides that, solid bearing trucks weren't banned until the 90's.

Wellllll... yes, solid journals were banned from interchange without exception in '94, but I believe (can't find an online authority easily to point you to) that after 1980 they required a waiver for interchange. The waiver and the special handling rules most RR's had on these at the time would have likely been reflected in the tariff, with the tariff intended to discourage non-RB cars in casual freight movement.

If that picture was 1983 as attributed, it was very likely not in revenue service.

Weren't all like that... box started out as a typical riveted GATC body with corrugated ends IIRC.  Like Jason mentioned, hopefully someone will do the proper car someday.  I'm not interested in yet another paint scheme on a welded PS-1.  Got too many as it is!

Mike, I agree - let's get only the resin tank from NSC, etch the sides/ends, fill in with the appropriate IMRC parts and build a proper one.
