I also found out I have dirt on my lens somewhere.  Not sure how to addrees that.

Looks more like dirt on the CCD. If you're not up to cleaning the CCD yourself, you may need to take it to a good camera shop.

Those old rusty rails look so much like old rusty rails . They have that unique purple-ish hue . That can't be a store bought color , what was the process to do that please .

What you're looking at is an accumulation of several colorants. It started with a base coat of ruddy primer. This was followed by brushed-on blotches of Floquil Weathered Black and liberal, uneven applications of Rustall and Doctor Ben's Weathered Rust.

Here's a better view before all the trees, brush and junk were added.

Thanks , IMO though that other view looked more naturally rusty , this looks more roof brown . I need to get some chalk's , that and when a model might float away like  a moth under the air pressure of a gun , stick it to tape , not hold the gun at a further distance . Thanks for the breakdown David .

Different lighting, different angle of view, it all makes a big difference. How's this one?

Here it is!

All in all I've got about 3 hours in it.  And believe it or not, not one beer lost its life in the production of this model.  (I partied all weekend with my siblings, so I had my fill already!)

On behalf of the band, I hope we passed the audition...

Sort of unnecessary being parked on a single spur like that, Lee, but it sure looks good! I like how you can see into the factory in that first shot.

I was struggling with how to photograph it.  It would have taken too much time and effort to dummy in a parallel siding on the layout...

I put a coat of silver on using a paint pen... the idea is I would weather it to tone it down a bit...

FYI, I just now read David's article, and it's alarming how similar my approach was.  I had seen his note that he had written up his Z scale model, but deliberately didn't look it up until I had completed my model.

The main difference was that I used a silver sharpie to color the bridge deck, then applied washes of rust where he used powders.  Like David, I used a decal made from tread plate patterns gleaned from the interwebs.  I found mine in the first page of a Google image search, and it may well be the same image David used.

I'm looking for a suitable replacement for the wire I used for the stay, too...  That doesn't look functional the way I have it.  A fun project to be sure.

Wow, great job. You obviously need some O Scale wood kits to assemble.

Now if I could just get off my duff.....

Might want to put some sort of bumper or wheel stop at the end of that trestle; I don't think the wooden railing would do too much in keeping a loaded coal hopper from going over the end.

The trestle wasn't finished in that shot. It now looks like this.

Better?

Seems to me the wheel stops should be set a bit more inboard...  Methinks a coupler would wipe out the fence by the time the wheels hit the stops...  just sayin'....
