Hmmm .. when you get over 50, a quickie is a sprint to the bathroom ... TMI :)

Looks like an old MT truck with rib wheels, some plastruct, and styrene .. and you are there ..

SO the purpose is to bridge the train tracks to load . . . what exactly?

My guess is it's used to load a car on a parallel track, to the right in the pic. Just a guess, mind.

Is that a big gear I see under there?  Does that mean it's powered?  Randy?  Chris? David?  When will we see the powered T scale model of this!

This would be a great detail to add to an urban switching area...
Make sure the hinged platform works.

I think the gear you see is actually the far left ribs on the wheel .

One use would be , a dimpsy dumpster transporter to a central location not far away , like a few hundred feet . They could rotate empty ones in and take the full ones out as needed without the wait for the carting service to arrive . A fork lift could probably do the same function though .

The movable single track platform bridge makes more sense though .

Hmm. Rib-backed wheels, no springs, and friction bearings?  So much for interchange service.  ;)

Seriously, I think this little contraption is a great idea.  One or two men is all it would take to push it, if necessary, and this would allow loading on the far track without switching cars.  Convenient when a switcher is not present and there's no freight cars on the inner track to use for bridging (with bridge plates, of course).

I throw down the gauntlet.  Everyone has to build one by the end of the weekend.  And per the instructions, you must drink beer while working on it.  No excuses.  The prize will be more beer.

Here's my predictions,
Tom Mann's will be weathered exquisitely
Randy's will be fully functional
Ed's will be blue
Dave Vollmer's will be convertible between steam and diesel power
Dave Foxx's won't be able to make the radius on his new layout
Carhart's will be in Rock Island paint, and therefore include the requisite broken wheel.  He'll also get it from someone else...
Steve will talk to us about how he might overcome the obstacles involved in planning the project
David's will be Z scale, but look better than the HO scale ones that are offered (except possibly Tom's)
Chris's will be made from brass, and probably run under it's own power.
Mine won't be done until Monday morning, but it will have a decoder to operate the moving platforms. (no motor, though)

Who's in?

So does it need to be in the same paint?  Or do we use what we have?

One more prediction... Phil will ask stupid questions ;D

The only rule is that the wheels have to roll freely.

Carry on.

I'd bite, except the timing is bad. Need every minute I can spare to get ready for the open house next weekend.

Anyway... I don't drink beer.

Now Lee, my questions are not stupid - I just let them out at a higher rate then others . . .  ;)
