Someone should encourage Stacy to wander over to this layout for a fresh look at N scale.

Gary,

That is exactly what I did. I really tried to make the argument that accurate models appeal to those who seek prototypical fidelity, and that people who don't care about this will buy them anyway.

Best wishes, Dave
If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

Man oh MAN those New Lisbon modules look DAMN GOOD! They really bring me back to when I would railfan there every summer.

For those looking for the Imagine That Laser Art, here is their URL for the N stuff. I wish they would add the HO El station to their N line!

Looking at Imagine That Laser Art's web site I'm not all that impressed. The corner brick detail on the HO scale version of the Pelton tower is very workable (though I can't be sure of the actual scale of the brick), but that corner detail doesn't seem to transfer with the same accuracy on the corner of the N scale version.

And with the models already available of high tension power line towers, I don't think the laser cut wood model can compete with its chunky thickness. That model's got canklles.  It can compete at price point, which may be offset by the fragility of wood over brass or plastic.

Honestly, the whole jigsaw mentality of laser cut wood structures is cute and all, as long as the seams don't show, but they always seem to, especially in a photo of an unfinished model.
Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.

The Chicago L structure is really, really neat. The N scale station is coming, they have to increase the cross sectional area on a few parts so it doesn't "disintegrate".  I bought some of the 2-track structure to play with.

Apparently Atlas made an announcement, at least maybe in HO:

Must be a gag order in effect in Milwaukee!

If you come to the show you hear about everything right away!  And no excuses about distance, Dave made it from Alaska, and Chuck's Posse from Cali isn't complaining either.  We party all weekend in MKE.

A party is nice , but new useful products in N did not attend the party . So you had no real excuse to party .

Wish I had been there Skibbe. A good party is hard to miss out. Unfortunately there are things more important than N scale trains. So even though there wasn;t anything new announced that everybody would be excited about. Trainfest is a good reason to party in the MKE. Just don't it in the airport. They don't like it much!! ;D

Ooooooookaaaaaaay...

Help me understand your issues. IMO the Bachmann 'J' is not a bad model. Runs pretty decent, is an 85-90% capture of the real thing (shall I upload my pics of the real thing while it was still running?). Plus the effort made to model the different/distinct auxiliary tender in the "excursion" set should get them at least a little extra credit.

Is this the usual Bachmann denigration just because it's Bachmann, or is there some genuine, gross error I have missed in my ignorance? Or is it nitpicks? Like the late, great Life-Like they've been making a lot of effort in the past decade to upgrade themselves out of the trainset genre, and the knee-jerk chorus of "Bachmann junk" has played itself out, at least with me. Yes, B still has some losers in the lineup trying to get value out of old tooling... but the 'J' isn't one of 'em.

I would say your comment applies to the 1980s version. 85% is about right.

The 21st century version however, is closer to 99% correct - I used to own a brass version, and the current Bachmann version put it to shame. It actually runs very well to boot (I have two of them).

The 1950s auxilary tender is also an excellent model.

My only complaint is the crappy knuckle couplers, and this is a relatively simple fix.
