Dave, It's hard to tell from the picture but, most Penn's Cave signs here in central Pa are framed with a silver border, Its a small thing but, TRW seems to be about getting the small things right.

Well... if you're going to go though the effort of getting it closer to correct, then let's take it a few steps further. Note, for instance, there is no apostrophe in "PENNS," and the lettering is very different (it's not a font--it's all hand-lettered). Plus the proportions are all really different, too.

I found another version of the sign online and used it for the signature Penns Cave lettering; for the rest I used a font that captures the spirit of the dark green hand lettering. Print this artwork and your silver frame will be worth the effort!  :ashat:

Dave, I like that.  I'll need to stretch it to fit the existing billboard.

As for the apostrophe, I also used an old brochure as inspiration:

<Ahem> In other news, the eastbound main at the rock cut between Huntingdon and Mt Union is out of service for track repairs...



There was a cold solder joint that caused a kink in this curve.  I have a section of Unitrack painted to match and ready to go in.  It will be ballasted and weathered.  It's a temporary solution until I replace all the track.  It also allows me to see what's awaiting me under the existing track.  Not too bad.  If I were to replace the Woodland Scenics trackbed here with cork I would have a nice flat surface to work with.

Dave,

I don't know what you used to glue the roadbed to the foam subroadbed (I use yellow carpenter's glue), but you have got to love when it comes off that clean.  A quick zip with the putty knife, and deconstruction is complete!  I'm curious to see how well you will blend the Unitrack with the Atlas Code 80 with paint and weathering.

So am I!   :trollface:

It's in a cut, so I have that going for me.  I think at that point I was out of caulk or Liquid Nails Projects or whatever the heck I was using and went with white glue.



I have all kinds of dreams of expansion but the reality is that I'm spending very little time in the layout room.

It's crossed my mind to sell off all my Conrail stuff to finance future expansion.  No joke.  I probably won't, but it's a thought.
