For many,  perhaps most of us, I think that confusion goes with the territory, regardless of our ages.  I suggested Hagerstown for purposes of discussion, nothing more.  I am, in fact, interested in the area, and in the railroads that were there, but a lot of thought should go into what to model and how to design the layout.

Some of us seem to need to operate by trial and error, me for one.  So, it might be worth thinking about KATO Unitrack, because it is so easy to rearrange it.

That sounds like an interesting idea, experimenting untill you have the right layout for you. Or, instead of ripping up the track, redoing scenery and stuff, you just have to rearange the sectional track. If I did do that, I probably would use bachmann, as much as I hate it. Cheapest. Kudos for the idea.

Actually, I'd say the Atlas True Track. It's easy like the Kato stuff AND can still look ok.

Cheap... and inexpensive.  Speaking from experience here, the tabs that hold the Bachmann track together have a nasty tendency of breaking.  Especially if your looking at it for more than around-the-Christmas-tree use, I would strongly encourage you to invest in something a little higher quality.

Maybe, it's still in the deciding stages. I could go with atlas true track, but what will I do with my Micro Engineering track?

Here's an idea: I will use atlas code 55 flex track for the layout. What to do with the ME track you ask? I plan on using that for a diorama layout that I am planning. The atlas flextrack can be tempararily be held down with a few drops of full strength white glue. When I find a track plan I like after experimenting, I will then glue down cork roadbed under the code 55 track. The benchwork will consist of a 30" by 80" door, with a 1" piece of foam insulation board as sub roadbed. I think that sounds correct....
