Need Help with first layout

Hey everybody,
I am neededing help planning my first layout. I am opting for a small 30" by 80" door size layout. I wanted to recreate Conrail's ex-PRR Middle Division line. Lot's of switching, I wanted at least one industry that takes tankers. Could you nice people at The Railwire help?

Lots of nice ideas, and easily adaptable to era, theme, size, etc.

HTH,
Ed

If you want to do the middle division, look no further than Dave Vollmer's door layout.

I'd say he's hit it pretty well on the head.

Alright, thanx Ed. I won't be able to get to the replies quickly, using the Station's Computer. Mine is screwed up.

was there really any switching along the former MD during Conrail?  Mapleton has the silca plant, that's about all i can think of honestly.

Maybe since NS took over, there has been many more idustries put up. IDK. There is an industrial park up in Granville Township though.

Now I am having many thoughts on what to do. Maybe I will model a BNSF or UP layout. I kinda wanted to do something a little out of my crosshairs, if you will.

Maybe look over your shoulder and do something from an earlier era...

I am really thinking about this. BNSF is pretty cool looking, but, an earlier era is a good idea, maybe something from the old PRR days?

You'll either thank me later, or you'll run screaming into the night with an inferiority complex!  I used to think I did a pretty good job on scenery before this bum came along!

find a PRR branch line that has some switching and a tunnel and you are all set... i wouold not try to put a heavy mainline on a door - ask Dave about staging.

yeah, I don't know what to do at this time, but I may be able to go larger than a door layout, at the largest a 6x10ft layout.

How about a nice sleepy coal branch on the Clinchfield like the Haysi?
