I just received a new wartime GS-4 from Kato. Beautiful locomotive, but I can't get it to run. Seems to be an issue with the trailing truck. I can may get it to go a foot or so and something goes wrong with the trailing truck which stalls everything. I'm thinking I got a bad unit. Any similar issues from anyone else?

I recommend you take it back or send it back.

If you want to fix it...

going about a foot is pretty strange as a symptom.

I think you have a traction tire issue  and that is a complete guess

can it go backwards after it stops?

Could it be binding?

Really, a good dealer should exchange it. Get you a new one that works perfectly like they normally do. Your's got thru Kato's QC dept, and it's not right. Hey, it happens with multi-billion dollar space-craft and military weapons systems....a little model train that isn't right should be dealt with. If your dealer isn't responsive, get ahold of Kato USA in Schamberg, IL and their warentee dept will make it right. On the 'puter at work I've got his name and direct phone number and e-mail, but at 2:20 AM I can't quite pull it up in my brain. He is very nice and extreamely helpful, even on engines more than old enough to vote. Myself, I wouldn't tear into a brand new engine. That's what the warentee is for.
