Mr Softee is still alive and roaming here on Long Island, but not in my area. The ice cream trucks around here are nothing more than vans or box trucks with windows on the side and a freezer selling good humor ice cream and gum/candy.

They play the music, but lack any real imagination. I don't think they will be thought of as fondly as the old Carvel trucks we had in the old neighborhood.

Don't under estimate a kids fondness for the memories of their childhood , no matter what they are . The magic happens in ones mind . I am sure your parents and grand parents related their good old days , which included horses and cars with people riding running boards , but yet your memories were still special though different . God only know how things will change in 20 years , and those plain Jane ice cream trucks might also be a fond memory to todays youngin's . In fact , I would bet on it .
