White painted cinderblock warehouses

Please share your prototype photos of white painted cinder block warehouses.  I'm looking for two things:

1.  How the mortar looks.  Does it ooze out or is recessed?
2.  How weathering migrates down the side from the roof.  How does this streaking look?

I'll get some shots out here...but a properly laid cinder block wall should have almost a slight concave mortar line, about the radius of your index finger.
I WANNA SEE THE BOAT MOVIE!

I don't have anything modern. Will a 50's era Denver Iowa building suffice?  It's not super close up but you can see the grouting and it's just as Ian describes.

Nice photos David. There are some great textures. The scale house building (?) looks like it has some modeling potential.

So which one will it be tonight? Terry's or Roberta's? They both look so inviting....I wouldn't ask for their wine list.

If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

If you go to the pic in the album you can increase the size to see a little better.

Hey Tom, what are you going to use for the cinder block material? Or are you planning on hand scoring styrene sheets and applying texture later?

I have to build a cinder block building on one of the modules and I can't recall good looking cinder block material being available outside of the Walthers State Line Farm Supply kit.

I have pieces from Walther's Magic Pan bakery kit.  They are not great, but think I can photograph around their faults.

i am a certified brick mason (no really) and have used a variety of jointers while working with brick.

when i was doing block we did not tool the joints - who cares what the joints look like on the back face of the building - i typically would butter the top row, butter the ends, and lay the block.  then i would clean up the excess from the faces and keep moving.  if you keep it clean, the flush joint looks nice and is weatherproof.

not many warehouse buildings are blocks anymore - pre-stressed concrete panels seem to be the main material these days.

from David's list...

http://www.lunerouge.org/textures/wall/LRwall0007.jpg

this wall is done with untooled, flush joints.  it's very fast to build and looks good.

Every time I think of Tom's weathering now, I think, "When it rains, it pours."
Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.
