Turntables

Never looked closely at N turntables, but I need to now...

Am I off base in assuming the Atlas turntables are basically flat things where the entire "table" turns?

Is the Walthers table available unpowered?  My table is more of a scenic element, and no need to splurge $200 for one...

Is the PECO big enough to be useful for NA prototype?

The Atlas is a flat, "covered pit" design and is pretty ugly.

The Walthers turntable looks great and is indexed, but expensive.

I have a Peco turntable.  It is rather short, but will hold up to a Kato Mikado.  The couplers will almost overhang the bridge on the Peco unit, but it fits.  Mine is powered and I found it on e-bay for about $89.  It is a good looking turntable that does not take up much space.  I don't need auto indexing.  It will be used as part of my model of the Danbury Railway Museum as part of my Housatonic layout.  The Peco turntable sounds like a great option, especially if you want it unpowered.  It has good detail, including the cast bridge drive motors and cast in pit track.  If you want to turn anything larger than a Kato Mike, then you will need to look at the Walthers turntable.

Thanks - the PECO should do fine - it's for an engine terminal/car shop - but "post-modernized" where the turntable and roundhouse do hopper car repairs - sort of like Williamson on the NS.

Is that an unpowered version of the built up?  Or is it a warmed over Heljan kit?

The Peco is rather short. Quite unlike the Williamson one. 

If the turntable is just a prop the old Heljan one which Walthers sold is 120 feet and cheap.

I have the Heljan one and my plan is to operate it using the Atlas mechanism underneath it.

I looked at some photos tonight and I agree, I think I will wait for the longer one to become available. I also noticed the turntable in Huntington WV on the Chessie is also similar to the Walthers.

That's interesting news.  I'll hold off laying out the DRM portion of my new layout until I see the price on that.
