ATHEARN 50' OVERLAND

Hey All,

I see some familiar names from Atlas....Anyway, does anyone know of a good internet source on the history of the Overland cars?  I model the mid 50's to the late 60's.  Athearn says they were used through the 40's.  Anyone know of these lasting into the 50's?  I am looking for some GN cars to go with my CB&Q heavyweights.

Thanks for your input!

If any of these cars lasted into the 1950's they would have been on branchline or mixed trains as these cars were wood sided, now a few were probably rebuilt either with steel underframes or steel sides over the wood and new underframes, but their short leingth not 70 ft. or 80 ft. would have had them out of service by then. Hey it's your railroad and you can run it any way you like so use them if you want. They are fairly nice cars. Nate  Goodman (Nato).Salt Lake,Utah.

There's a little info here on this type of car.  Click on Part One:

One of the best features of the MDC/Athearn Overlands is that they are great bash fodder if you need 60 or 70 foot cars.
