What a piece of craftsmanship!

I can't wait to doll it all up.

Anyone have good sources of small steam inspiration? I'm thinking of at least moving the headlight out above the front of the smokebox, instead of on top of it.

I'm still trying to hod back on buying the On30 4-4-0.

Ed, look at the locomotive from the direct side before you move the headlight. Since it has an extended smokebox, the headlight might extend out over the plane of the coupler knuckle, which is a no-no, as the headlight would strike a passenger car diaphragm when switching.

Of course, you could always shorten the smokebox...

Ahh, good call on that. I hadn't noticed that.

I don't think I'll be taking a razor saw to it, so it looks like the headlight will stay.

I've been running it a bit today. It's real nice. Real slippery, but real nice.

I guess the first step is going to be a Loksound decoder for it.

Ed, Welcome to the world of "Real" model railroading... :) The "Dark Side" as it were. Wait until Sean finds out... Although I must question your choice of model. Conrail never had a 4-4-0. ;)
Welcome.

He can still paint it blue...  What's good for Tyco is good enough for our Ed!

I've been tempted by this little beastie, myself.  I have the 10 wheeler, but I got it at a good price point (Micro Mark was dumping them for about $67 last year).  If the 4-4-0 ends up in the bargain bin, I might have to pick one up to serve as Ma & Pa #6 for that "Some Day" layout of the Maryland Division.
