OMG, Fox Valley's gonna do me in with the PS 5344s. If they decide to do the 5277 I'm a goner.

You should already be gone then... IM's had one for months...

Except those Intermountain cars...oh...what's the technical term I'm looking for? I believe it's "suck a$$", when compared to what we're used to seeing from that company.

The cars might have everything you mentioned, but I just thought the molded detail on them wasn't very good. The doors looked blobby to me, and the ribs appeared to be shallow. Although this was when they first came out, do you know if any of the cars had paint thickness issues? The photos of the undec cars on Intermountain's website don't look as bad as I remember.

The ribs on the Intermountain car do look shallow, however I think this is because the wider part of the rib is far too thick (crappy explanation I know)

the door is too thick on the model, they designed it to be interchangeable (like the MDC Berwick) so the separate casting is a little chunky. also the stirrups suck

on the examples I have the paint, while not as good as other manufacturers is not a big issue (its no thicker than any other IM car :P)

Fox Valley does make a better car, but not that much better to justify making a double (Vs the FMC car where the Micro-trains version is a failed abortion and the MDC/Athearn looks like its from the 1980's (which it is)

Skibbe and I walked around the show a bit and I took a few photos. Since most of it has been covered already, I'll just caption a few photos below. Everything below is n-scale only...

(below)Atlas had pre-production 2-bay hoppers on display:

(below)Atlas through plate girder bridges:

(below)Atlas Ford Fairmont in n-scale (these looked really good):

(below)Bachman Chesapeake and Vanderbuilt Tenders:

(below)Athearn had an n-scale Big Boy on display - like the Challengers, this was extremely well done:

(below)Deluxe is coming along with the spine cars. Dave mentioned there are some changes that need to be done first:

(below)Deluxe also had there latest releases on display including more pre-weathered stuff that looks great:

(below)Intermountain had their upcoming flatcars on display:

(below)Intermountain flatcar  - nice detailing (hand modeling by Mike Skibbe):

(below)Kato - SP Daylights in paint, no lettering though - articulation of close coupling design is ingenious. Below is how close the cars couple:

Looking at the interior - I can see why they are on the pricey side (understandably).

I thought I read somewhere that the interiors cost extra.

Depending on the final product, the price is about in line with the higher priced coalporters...which I think are probably a little off the mark price-wise but that's just me.   To me the best values in "modern" coal cars in n-scale are the Kato coalporters, the Atlas coalveyors, both of which include internal bracing and excellent coal loads that can actually be used.   A close third would be the Atlas 90T hopper...still an outstanding value, just not quite up to the level of detail of the other two. (understandably, given their age, and they are priced accordingly)

Any chance these will come with FVM metal wheels?

Those IM flats look pretty good, and are on my Top 5 most wanted list.

wow - the RD4's and the IM flats look great!

We need to get IM to do bulkhead flats next....

The MTL bulkhead flat to me is their greatest disappointment...
