First post. Old SRO member and current NScale.net member. Not enthused with MRH and took notice at some work when a buddy posted a link to here. I am a mechanical engineer by day and a model kit designer by night. Some of my work is sold by KenRayModels and St Charles Model Works. It has been quite awhile since I had a layout, and a few years since I built anything outside of my various jobs. In the next couple years that may finally change. I am also a semi-regular at the Bedford N Scale Meet, and a volunteer with http://www.youngstownsteelmuseum.org/

Hello to all.  Time to introduce myself .  My name is kirk and I have been following the great work of so many here on the railwire.  There are a lot of talented  people here.  Seems like a great bunch of guys.  Grew up in centreville, n.b. canada with CN shortline which terminated behind our house.  Used to ride the engine as it ran around the wye.  Those were the days.  I have n scale layout on a door based on the famous carolina central.  There are some great n scale door layouts on here which of course i follow their builds.  Tks enjoy your day.

a little info on my layout.  Dc controlled by blocks, code 80 atlas track and customline turnouts.  Mountain runs down the middle serving as a viewblock.  Turnouts are to be controlled by slide switches.  How are those using the slide switches  mounting them in foam.   I am using foam roadbed which is not good for holding the switches.  Tks Kirk

We probably should start a new thread for this, but this will be a quick response.  I encapsulate my slide switches in cork roadbed that's been glued to the foam with yellow carpenter's glue.  The hole for the slide switch must be snug to prevent it from moving around.  I have since found that a dab of CA in the two screw mounting holes makes it solid.

I have been modeling railroads since my first HO layout as a Christmas gift at age 6.
My HO collection is in storage as moving and space limitations are best served with N Scale.
Currently in SE Pennsylvania, Philly Suburbs. Always modeling PRR with other NE American
railroads. But, have expanded west and more southward with KATO passenger sets released.
PRR, however, will always be the main focus.

it would seem I choose a very good time to make the switch to N scale
started in 2006. and since, there have been many wonderful releases
from some really fine manufacturers.

Hello, I'm Dan, I stumbled upon this forum and thought I'd poke my head in and say  hello.  I recently returned to model railroading  after about a 40 year hiatus.  I am "loosely" modeling the 1950's D&RGW. I enjoy the asthetic that is the EMD F3. I look forward to bumping about here.

Welcome, Dan!  I model railroads of the southeastern U.S., but I have always admired those D&RGW F units ever since I saw Brian Holtz's D&RGW Panoramic Division layout in Model Railroader magazine in the early 1980s.  FYI, we love pictures, so post often.

Thanks for the warm welcome Dave, I'll just get these other 23 posts out of the way and then I'll share. I have only been back into the hobby for about 4 months now so I have a lot of work ahead of me. I work full time PM shift at the local hospital (Med Lab Tech)  so do a lot of modelling on my weekend off.  I have been scratch building some structures that I got plans for fron another forum. The fellow generously shared a bunch of pages of plans on the forum. Kudos to gary60! I really want to do some hills but am not feeling ready for that yet. I did find plans on Instructables for a DIY foam carving tool which I will build but I have to scare up an old toaster for the nichrome wire.
