Hi, I'm Jeff Hormann. I'm 32 years old living near Toledo, OH, but am originally from New Haven, IN. I model the Nickel Plate in the 1957-58 timeframe but also have a small collection of modern day NS and Amtrak. I've been modeling for only about four years. Been a lurker on this forum and others for a while and have finally decided to share and participate in the community.

I started with a simple roundy-round on an 80x32 HCD (mainly for testing locomotives and decoders), but I recently moved everything to my unfinished basement and added a few more HCDs to create the basis for my main layout. I'm in the final planning stages of my track plan, which will model the NKP main between the west side of Fort Wayne and the IN/OH state line. I plan for most trains to be through trains but I'll have several industries and also a condensed East Wayne yard, hopefully with a scratch built enginehouse and NE tower someday. This will be a very long-term project! I'm a complete noob when it comes to tracklaying and scenery so it will be quite a challenge.

My main interests so far have been custom rolling stock and weathering. My current project is custom painting a few old Rowa coaches and sleepers I picked up off of eBay into NKP 100-series coaches and City of 10-6 sleepers. They are both near-perfect matches of the NKP prototypes. After that I have six cabooses to paint and decal into the "High Speed Service" scheme and some Geeps to mod. No shortage of things to do!

I have already learned a great deal from reading the forums and hope to continue learning and developing modeling skills.

Welcome.  Seusscaboose is your fellow out of the closet NKP guy - so we can't wait to see what you two dream up.  Please consider starting a Layout Engineering thread so we can see what you are doing in the land of HCD's - of which as you know we have many examples already.

Eric, thanks for the invite. I've looked all over the interwebs for ideas and inspiration, and I'm happy to see the NKP getting lots of love from the model railroad community. I have learned so much since I started in the hobby, but I probably got the biggest kick out of seeing lots of photos of my hometown from the timeframe I'm modeling, with Berkshires blasting through downtown (one occasionally still does!  ), and seeing how much has changed, and how much hasn't changed. It's a great history lesson.

Philip, thanks for the welcome! I'll certainly consider starting a Layout Engineering thread once construction gets underway, because I'm doing something I haven't seen anyone else try before...that probably means it's total folly, but we'll see.    My general layout plan is a single level loop made up of 5 HCDs arranged in either a "J" or "G" shape with scenic dividers down the center of each door. I chose to do this because I wanted some long main-line runs and key scenes while remaining portable and even downsize-able if need be...right now I'm blessed with plenty of space but that might not always be the case. It will be an engineering challenge to overcome some pretty big disadvantages inherent to this plan.

I never knew you were from around Dayton ..

Maternal grand parents in Genoa (30 minutes east of Toledo).  Paternal grand parents in Cleveland.  Born halfway between in Lorain. 
Dayton is 2 hours south (+/-) from Toldeo... so yeah...   that "neck of the woods kinda"...  although Dayton is more of an Erie/B&O haven (if i recall correctly).

Welcome Drew.  Glad to have another N-scaler on the board.  The Cannuk Chapter will be contacting you shortly for membership information I'm sure (Pud/Tim/the Other Tim/ Gary/Mark D).

I'm Bob.  I've been model railroading off and on for the past 45 years; started with Lionel, then H0, to O, and finally to N scale for the past 15 years.  I'm modelling the PRR and EL from 1960-66, in NE PA on a 4' x 12' layout that is about 80% done (until I expand it again.  Started out as a 3 x 4)  I'm really impressed by the knowledge and modelling ability of what I've seen here, so far.  Just ordered a VO-1000 so I can build an FM 10-44.

This is my current project, a free lanced deco movie theater, that started out as a DPM kit, Otto's Parts.  It's loosely based on the Nortown Theatre, which was my local one growing up in Detroit.  About 75% done, no details yet, and needs paint touch up.



And before anyone asks, my username is kind of a joke on my full time hobby: repairing brass instruments and making french horns (without valves).

I was inspired to clear a path around the layout, and hope to get it dusted off and running by this weekend.  Part of a general horn workshop cleanup, as most of my toolboxes were empty on the benches.  Got my VO-1000 in the mail today, as well as a couple of Bluford hoppers and a BLMA Wabash cvd hopper today from BLW; only three days after I ordered it.

My problem is just the opposite Bob - I'm aways searching for more time to spend on my (too many) hobbies.

Much Like him I`m a big PRR fan and I also model a fictional Line the PRR NorthEast Division which is basically a line that follows the Lehigh Valley then the Erie from New York To Buffalo
On the Map its a yellow line

I have a big layout reflecting this line with plans to add a helix with a upper level and a staging yard under my current level

My layout is heavy on the PRR with lots of Erie and Lehigh Valley tossed in alongside CNJ and Reading
This line was born out of my wanting to model my local area(Wyoming Valley of Northeast PA)
but also model the mighty PRR
