Photos of UTLX tank car

Here are some photos of a Precision Scale HOn3 UTLX tank car kit I just finished.  I'm happy with the way the spilled oil turned out.  It matches the prototype photos I have of these grimy cars nicely.  This is also the first time I've used Sergent engineering couplers on one of my HOn3 builds.  http://www.sergentengineering.com/HOn3_frame.htm     They look superb and with care, operate well.  I used a thin rust wash on them for weathering.  As it was drying I continuousily worked the knuckle open and closed so they would continue to operate smoothly.

That's a masterpiece! Looks like it's been many a moon since it was last cleaned and painted. Looks absolutely real.  8)

Chris,

Actually, it's one of PSC's injection molded plastic kits.  The body, frame, trucks and most of the details are made up of plastic parts.  The handrail, grab irons and brake staff are brass wire.   The two tank straps are photo etched brass.  The brake rigging is Delrin (I think).  The wheels are NWSL.

3rdrail,

Thanks for the compliment.  I actually procrastinated the weathering a few days because I was worried I couldn't get the look right.

Very nice work Erik! I'm working on three narrowgauge projects right now myself; a PSC HOn3 short caboose, a PSC HOn3 long caboose, and a San Juan Car Co On3 Short caboose.
