this is interesting...

Somebody needs to tell the paint shop boys to stay out of the taverns during lunch.  ;D

That'd be a good contest project.

every once in a blue moon Trains will have an article with the paint shop goofs.  looks like they swapped the ND and LA templates.  i hope they weren't painted in the city that reads....

How long will it be before they show us how to add DCC to a tree?

There was a good "Paint Shop" article on this topic back in one of those MR issues
in the late 70's that I used to devour when I was young. It was written by George
Drury, after he accidentally lettered a passenger car "Erie Lackanna" with dry
transfers. He found some good proto photos, such as "Nor folk West & ern", & "B &".

What he also mentioned, was the fact that although he corrected his mistake on
the passenger car, he thought maybe he shouldn't have, since the proto people do it
too. He suggested that if it would happen again, to leave it that way & see if anyone
catches it (providing it's a car on your layout) but not do it more than once, or folks
will think you're using Jack Daniel's instead of Microsol!

They're not "Crown Victorias"-they're known

The worst lettering error was one on the Southern Railway - eleven boxcars got out with one number on one side and one number higher on the other side! Drove yard clerks crazy until they were all rounded up. Do recall seeing a "PENNSYLVALVA" car as well.  :o

there's a pic in the Andrew Dow N&W Coal Car book with a similar goof.

I would imagine that didn't stay that way for long ...
