Chuck, I realize that the CP flat comes with 2 containers, but at least give us dimi data. It looks like it is masquerading as a holiday car. ::) Let's put a bow on it. ;)

Who is Dimi and why would you want his data?  :P

I dislike this increasing pattern of MT forcing us to buy their idea of loads ...  >:(

I have that  article from RMJ filed away here! Thanks for jogging my memory!!!

Another question - will the CSX 3 bay hopper have the SAME MISTAKE from the previous run - blue printing???

MTL is evidently aware of this controversy. See the explanation from the MTL description of the reissue:

Built in August 1974 by ACF industries, this car was repainted in January 1994 by an outside contractor. By this time the railroads were not allowed to paint their own freight cars. This could explain the often complained about incorrect blue lettering in the logo. Who Knows?

Sounds like bushwa to me, especially the second sentence. But, I'll reserve judgement as it's far too modern for me.  ;)

WTF???  It is certainly true that CSX paints cars in a lot of outside shops - and has closed/sold off many or almost all of it's own car shops. But this is total BS....

What is supposed to be the prototype for the MT 89' flat?  I know it's a flush deck, but is there anything else.  I've never seen a picture of anything that looked very close.

Jason, like you say, the MT car is an accurate model of the "flush deck" design introduced in the late 1960s.  Pullman-Standard, Bethlehem Steel, and ACF built these cars to the same design, and they were used in a variety of services.

Grab the December 1993 issue of RMC for scale drawings, roster information, and descriptions of the car classes (TTX, TTAX, TTWX, etc.).

Actually this is referring to a FUTURE event, the Full Employment Act of 2012, when railroads are in fact, forbidden to paint their own equipment - only graffiti artists, now employed as Federal Urban Paint Artisans are chartered by law to perform this work.

Hmm, better not tell that to all the railways that not only painted but built and rebuilt their own cars!

I always thought they were the typical Bethlehem flush deck cars...

Did CP really own any (and paint them red???)

Nope. They were red, but they weren't regular flush-deck cars: CP's 89' container cars were more of an open frame construction.

Aren't those pictured CP flats the ones built by Marine Industries? If that's the proto MT is trying to mimic with their release, they've lost it. Not an even close body style. Sheesh.

Hoorah! Bring back the WPA! And CETA funding while you're at it! As an artist, I'm all over that idea!

Well, CP Rail is a pretty big name, so I'm sure MT would want to get a little of that action...

But CP never had any of that prototype car. It's certainly not the first foobie in a paint scheme of a different body style.

Check out this foobie piece of crap:

This portion of the description was my own edit and not actually from MTL: "This could explain the often complained about incorrect blue lettering in the logo. Who Knows?"
