Well, it's that time of the week again. What have y'all got to share from the past week??

Photos if possible, please.  8)

I just scored a Kadee kit for a Soo Line boxcar with the old "dollar sign" logo at a reasonable price (10ยข under my maximum bid) on eBay. I've been looking for one of these for years but they've always gone for more than I've been willing to pay.  ::)

Hi, all, here's a couple of contributions from me.

First up, an old photo out of the archives, from May 2004, at the beautiful Belmont Shores
N scale layout in San Pedro, CA.

These are the bridges at a location on the layout that I think is named
"Mount Billings".  (I'm not sure of my facts, but I think this area on the
layout is named after Dick Billings, a former longtime member of the club who is
now living up in Seattle, I believe).

Thanks to Flash Blackman for hosting me as a guest at Belmont
Shores that day.  The club has a web site at:

http://www.socaln.com/belmont/

Enjoy the last weeks of the summer, all.  :-)

Second, the Greenlight Intermodal Contest is inspiring me to
get some things done.  :-)

Here's a For Display Only contribution to that contest for this week:

The Greenlight Intermodal Contest URL is at:

http://greenlightintermodal.info/Home_Page.php

(No relation to Greenlight, just appreciative of their excellent efforts to
broaden the knowledge base and appeal of N scale Intermodal).

Have a great weekend, and next weekend is Labor Day!

I've been working on a Morgan Hill Models On30 20' boxcar and a bunch of Z and N scale weathering projects (yes, I still do those too).  The MHM boxcar kit is a laser-cut wood kit built in the same way as an 1890's Carter Brothers car.  It's been a lot of fun.

Yes, I know, worthless without photos...maybe tonight ;D

The W&LG was having a meeting with the employees , and the Signal Repair Gang mentioned that they would like a self propelled double ended work car to test signals in both directions , with a platform on top to ladder up to signal bridges when the snow was deep . The management said that they could modify the Management Inspection car to fit that bill , and thereby get extra duty out of it . The W&LG also has a Rod and Gun Club that uses speeders to go to abandoned spurs to fish and hunt on Sundays , the day that the railroad has no scheduled trains . Sunday is a free for all , for employees to use the rails for their personal fun from sun-up to sun-down . So they chimed in and asked and was given permission to use the Inspection Car to get the groups to the streams , and even fish from the top deck while being parked on a bridge , and to go Prong Horn and Prairie Dog hunting . The deck on top would offer a great vantage point and the railings would be a great steady rest for those long shots .A beach umbrella and some lawn chairs , a keg in the baggage compartment , and a reminder to all to wizz with the wind at your back while on the roof . Hey , its my railroad , and that's the story .  I also shortened the car and frame by 3 windows just to make it different .

I added four more WM 70 Ton hoppers by MDC to the fleet, and rescued a boxcar from the junk box with some paint, decals and weathering...

Otherwise I've been building a closet for my daughter, and working on stuff to pay for it all...

Spent way too much yesterday at Chantilly.  Jumped on the DCC bandwagon and purchased the Bachmann beginners set.  I know some of you will probably jump on me but I also got alot of Kato Unitrack to start over on a layout since I'm getting lazy at my age.  Actually did not buy any equipment.  Know there has been some interest shown on catenary and looked at Kato's stuff.  Kato has cat poles for single and double track.  While Japanese prototype would fill in and perhaps be modified for U.S. use.

That's my kind of project!

Awesome work from everyone.
The extent of my train work this week was some Bachmann 4-4-0 repairs, and evaluations. (parts box vs Nn3)  I also traded a few locos and shipped a few spare parts out, but that doesn't count for much.  >:(

I'm messing with my On30 2-6-0. Shortened the tender about 1-1/2'. Started modifying the cab. Cut about an inch off the back of the frame since the new boiler will be much shorter. Cut new running boards from thick brass, realized half way through I should of used a jig saw...  Last time the boiler was made from a 1" steel tube found in the garage. This time I ordered a brass tube from Small Parts Inc. So I can solder the details on.

...I did finish this stock Atlas Chessy GP30, restenciled and renumbered to B&O #6934, details from BLMA and GMM (and my own cut levers and decals) and some weathering (which is too dark on the long hood - bugger :( )

With the N-Scale Greenlight Intermodal contest just around the corner, it was apush enough to finish my crane. Everything is made of Plastruct styrene and ABS except the brass, which are actually designed for model ships.

Engineshop, that's a beautiful model. I haven't got anything done in the last two weeks except having a bad bout of colitus and being in the hospital for three days(seemed like three weeks since they didn't let me sleep but four hours the whole time I was there). >:(

Friday, I had to take a break from track-laying and wiring so, decided to rummage through my junque boxes of assorted saved treasures and other stuff.  Finding an older Atlas Geep chassis (from the "too long body release"), a discarded EF-15 shell from a cannibalizing project, and some sprues with left over core car parts, I let my imagination run amuck.  I've always thought a gas/diesel boxcab would be neat but, of course, none available in N.  I don't even think I've seen a brass one in N.  Anyway, I tried to capture the flavor of a boxcab and went crazy loading up the roof to give it that "busy" look all boxcabs seem to have.  I have no idea what all those additions would be but, I'm sure I could come up with a good explanation if a visitor ever asked and probably would have another explanation next time!  Some day, I might discover a pair of Alco truck frames (or whole truck assemblies) to replace those Blombergs which hadn't been invented yet!
