I decided to go through the 500 photos of the countless models that I worked on over the last two years to find my favorites.  These are some of them:

Wow... stunning stuff, Tom.  You and  Rich Yourstone are real inspirations to me.  The stream in the second pic is outstanding.  How'd you do it?

Awesome stuff Tom!

If it wasn't for the MT trip pin, I'd say that TOFC was a proto-photo.

And the water scene is unbelievable; I may need to talk to you soon about how you did it.

That's only a small portion of my warehouse-sized layout.

Guys, if you like this thread, go ahead and Digg it:  http://digg.com/offbeat_news/Amazingly_realistic_looking_model_trains

The water scene is Magic Water, with gloss medium stippled on top.  There is a 50W spotlight facing towards the camera with a orange CD case over it (see my photography article) positioned to reflect the water.  The lens flare is real, and not photoshop (IIRC).  Like usual, I can hide my sub-par modeling with above-par photos.  If you saw this scene in real life, you would recommend that I stick to a grass mat and bachmann track.  That "hill of dirt" in the lower right center is a little crappy.

Here is a different view, sans water (and a different kind of MILW RD boxcar): http://picasaweb.google.com/tmann1/ModelRailroading/photo#5043055000882754514

and here is the mountain scene: http://picasaweb.google.com/tmann1/ModelRailroading/photo#5043455566712648674

guys you should see the pictures when they are not crumbled together by the forum software (why he's still posting pictures which are bigger than the software alowes is beyond my knowledge :P )

and where are those MILW SD40-2 ? aren't they weathered yet ?
(or do you really use L&P for weathering... ?)

Sub par modeling.  Uhhh... yeah.  And monkeys might fly out of my butt.  Into self-deprication are you, Tom? ::)

Steve, only the TOFC photo is too wide.

The SD40-2s are on the list!  Soon!
