My first post. I think it was exchanged for Thomas the Tank which was secretly tested throughout the USA!!

Pennline actually modeled this Brit loco export in the early 1960's in HO shortened leingth model form along with the GN Empire Builder and Milwaukee Orange & Maroon schemes. Nate Goodman (Nato).

Not that this has anything to do with Kato, but this story about the British GG1 is the biggest load of cobblers I think I have ever read in my life!
There was no such beast - so can we please lay it to rest now.
Am I right in assuming the PRR was 1500v DC? Because with the exception of the Sheffield to Manchester route the only freight moved by electric power in the UK has ever been at 25kV AC.

No, PRR and New Haven were 11 KV, 25 Hz, AC. Amtrak still is, AFAIK.

I would think that if there were a Brit GG-1 that somebody in some scale would have produced it , or decaled one up by now . Very odd that so far not one shot can be found on the web .

Come on, read the link I posted above - it's obviously a joke!
As Gregg pointed out the loading guage in the UK is so small that many european freight cars cannot even fit through it - much less a GG-1!!!
Heck you probably couldn't fit a big American pickup truck on hirails past their station platforms

Wonder how long it will be before someone cuts a GG1 in half like the Wilmington Shops did. Maybe someone can fill me in on what they used it for. Also as for American pickup trucks on U.K. trackage. Back in 1984 while I was on military leave in London I spotted a yellow BR truck with highrail wheels on it. Fairly large truck and on closer look discovered it was a heavyduty Dodge.
