You know, in some parts of the world steam makes more sense than diesel.  Oil is getting VERY expensive, and coal is cheap.  Using modern technology, could a practicle American steam locomotive hauling coal for NS or CSX be done?  Maybe use all sorts of automation so that it only takes one person to run the thing.
