Well I hate to say this, but I'm out of the running. I've never dropped out of a challenge yet,
but there's no way I'll be able to salvage & redo mine in time.

I won't take the blame entirely though. I blame Microscale. Brand new decals right out of the
envelope & they disintegrated (sp?) upon application. actually a couple sheets are like this. Need to
find out what's wrong (not storage-cool & dry as recommended) Either way I dug out some
clearcoated NOS Walthers, which went on fine, but upon application of Microsol they dried with
wrinkles in the film-even with Solvaset applied too, no luck.

So I'll salvage & redo, but not in time. Kluke, don't mean to leave you high & dry bud, but I'm
not gonna make it.

I'm going to TRY to make it. The past two months have been hell. I've had a sick relative to take care of, work, and now, my cat broke his leg, and had surgery. I've done all I can, and will do all I can, to finish this car. I HOPE to make the deadline. If I do make it, my car will be stock, just weathered, patched, and renumbered like the prototype. THAT bothers me! I will go back and detail it later, though. It's tough to keep parts around since there isn't a hobby shop within 200 miles that carries detail parts.

i shot a layer of dullcote on mine this evening... and that's about as far as i've gotten... i'm taking a bit different approach to this car though, we'll see how it turns out...

Jeremy-good luck-blah, doesn't it figure when you need to get a car done by
a certain date all hell breaks loose with problem after problem? Bugs the snot
out of me for dropping out, but there's no way I can redo & do right, this car
in time for the deadline. I WILL redo, & as to Kluke's proto. But over time, &
eventually plan to add to my collection for the need to start rolling
stock roster for the my future layout the Hocking Valley Southern-modern era so I have to save some for me!

But it DID give me experience on doing those ghost letters which have drove me nuts for a technique. Now to work with what I know & go from there-can't wait to see what you come up with Jeremy.

if all went planned, this would be DDD#8-but now that honor's going to a CSX FMC box that I'm finishing up to give to the "prez" of the Sterling railfan group-plan on having done by April 11th, as a dedicated US railfan from the
UK is due to visit there, & wants to see some of my cars. More to come on
that, & it's in the finishing stages.

Kluke, as consulation, when I'm at Sterling, I'll "will" some cool EB protos for
you to photograph, since a good # of them end up your neck of the woods ha ha! You've been AMAZING at bringing back to life model disasters. (the tank, & the Chessie covered hopper) But timewise, I can't see doing the same to this one in the next week & a half.

Been off-line for a while and I check back in only to discover that finally the weathering challenge is one I could participate in!  I even have the IM car sitting on a shelf in my basement, just waiting for an occasion like this.  Then I see that the deadline is April 1st......and today is March 29th.  Think I can get my taxes and the challenge done this weekend?  Maybe an extension is in order.. that way Kluke and Donkey and myself can try and add some competition.  (sad that even though this is a 2-month challenge we still need more time)

This is an Athearn custom weathered Railbox boxcar, oh, sorry wrong thread. This is my entry for the challenge car.
Thanks to Jeff Kluke, MRKluke, The Klukester for the prototype photos.
This started as an undecorated Intermountain PS-1 Boxcar. Polly S Railbox Yellow paint, several washes, stencils made to wear away the lettering, and I used custom made decals.

Well, this was as far as I got. VERY PRIMITIVE, & poopy. (to steal a phrase from Kluke-sorry Jeff) If it
wasn't for the decals issue & the late delivery of the CSX Gold, it may have gotten done in time.
The arrows are crappy, the font for the patch is incorrect, & of course the decals committed hari kari
on me. (can't tell from the pic-but believe me-it's bad)


It'll eventually get finished though-that's a defintite. (after completely redoing) Plans are that'll it'll be used as for paper delivery(seems RBOXes get used that way a lot) for Smead Paper in Logan, Ohio, on the future Hocking Valley Southern.

All I have to say is Butch-Hats Off! You did a GREAT JOB! Speaking of fonts tho-what did you use for
yours? they appear to be spot on.

Now to get out the sanding sticks & start over & do this car RIGHT!
