Where's everybody?? Y'all can't all be at the Springfield show!  ???

My Mark4Design X23's finally showed up Friday. Haven't tackled them yet, but they look great.

My "project" for the last two weeks had nothing to do with trains; I was getting the (only) bathroom in my house remodeled.

I still have to paint the ceiling and the non-tiled portion of the walls, but now that the contractors are out of here, I can get back to more hobby-oriented pursuits... :)

I'm not at Springfield, but I'm madly watching the Forums to see the reports from our roving reporters.  :-)

Here's my photo contribution for the week :

I mean, from a Santa Fe railfan's perspective, it just doesn't get too much better than the elegant PA1s in Warbonnet.  :-)

I completed laying the track in the  staging yard .. and have now driven the "golden spike" .. that means I can run a train around the room on both levels, and also go from the upper to the lower levels. Next week will have me putting in the last of the tortoises, and also finishing dropping feeders to the bus.

Yesterday was the first day in a long while when it wasn't raining, windy, and cold.  It was just windy and cold.  Thus, I did some routine maintanance on my truck, checked fluids, cleaned the air filter, etc.

Today it's back to raining and cold, but the wind has died down a bit.

I made this Great Lakes Eastern unit [GLE] for Pool service on the ALGF's Southwind Intermodal trains running between Chicago and Mobile via ALGF & the Georgia Road.  GLE power may also show up in KCS trains on the 'Atlanticflier' Intermodal trains that run from Kansas City to Jacksonville [ KCS/ALGF].  This unit will also need some weathering and then road tested.

Decorated for: Keven Burkholder's freelanced Great Lakes Eastern
GLE # 2027 - ATLAS GP-38
Paint: Testors #1211 Dark Blue (the camera flash 'lightens it).
Decals: GLE decals from Keven Burkholder.

This was shot at 85mm on a DSLR. I built parts of the creamery from N-Scale Architects backwards--it turned out OK! Here the slight mismatch of modules doesn't show. The tall tree above the smoke stack hides a seam in the backdrop.

For a full, ongoing tour of the new layout, see my blog at:

It was driving me nuts that I couldn't put together trains, and properly have them enter and leave the layout, so I spent the better part of the weekend adding a Wye

that leads to a branch

that leads to a staging yard.

Ironically, the scene with the bridges was the first scene that I worked on for the layout.  It finally (4 years later) has an active rail line on it.

As you can see, the staging branch, which is all temporary, goes by my workbench, which is particularly messy in these views.  But don't worry, as with all new sections of my layout, a couple of new railfanning locations are going to be finished off for your viewing pleasure...

Have a great week!

Removed the dynamic brakes, trying to give it an ex-Wabash look.

Now you need to go all out... if you really want a former Wabash look... kitbash it with a C628 roof (Alco repowered all the WAB H24-66s with 251s in 64)
Actually, I just need to add Alco-style carbody filters.  The roof stays the same

Once the new staging yard is functional, I'll be able to have an a$$hat or two over to run some trains...

Chessie equipment need not apply.

I'm also working on getting my Walther's turntable into the act.  I just have to make sure I can install it in such a manner as to be able to move it Hagerstown whenever that gets built.
