I know that golf course, it's the Daytona Beach Golf Club.  Played many rounds there in the mid 90's while going to college at Embry-Riddle.  The mainline splits three holes on the South Courses back nine (maybe the front nine, I forget which) and you would see four to five trains go by during a round.  Never thought to take a camera with me back then.

That X-CR 6281, along with the 5032 and 5033 (5033 was destroyed when it went into the Connecticut river in 1998 I think when they hit a washout. The leader with the crew made it across) are used on the NECR, my employer. We have the FEC 417, 437, 721 and 722 up here also. That 6281 is still in its original CR paint, as there is a plaque on the sill that states something about a EL-PC agreement.

What impresses me about the FEC is that they figured out how to make money as a railroad well before most of the class ones.

One of the best parts about the FEC is their close relationship with the FEC society (including the FEC One-trak club) which gives us great picture opportunities at the annual conventions!

I use to live right there on Ridgewood/US 1 while I was at Bethune-Cookman and could see the golf course as well as the tracks from my balcony. Cheap rent, hop skip and jump from beachside as well as the Speedway you could not go wrong.  Plus it is about a 10mins drive from one of their yards in New Smynra/Edgewater

If I am not mistaken, all the GP38's are still in that scheme, I see them working locals nearly every morning in Miami, out of Hialeah yard. Ft. Lauderdale yard normally uses GP40's for switching and locals in the newer "Florida East Coast" scheme. And despite the new SD70's, I still see these in the lead most mornings on the southbounds into Hialeah:

I loved watching the FEC when I lived near Melbourne.  Unfortunately here in Navarre, the nearest train tracks are CSX and across the East Bay.

The FEC is definitely suited for a large modular club-type layout.  Not so great for a back bedroom N scale layout since so much of it is straight.  The stretch from north of Coco to Melbourne might be fun to model, though, as there is a large gravel pit, a small modelgenic yard at Coco, and lots of little lineside industries in Rockledge, Suntree, and Melbourne.  The downside is that it's pretty straight and flat through there, so you'd have to be creative handling the layout room walls.

This is in the top five "If I couldn't model Pennsy/CR, what would I model" projects, right behind the Durham and Southern through Apex, NC.
