It's Thursday again, time to share photos of the "real thing" It's electric, steam, and Diesel from me today. First an English Electric boxcab on the CN in Montreal, followed by a CNR 4-8-2, with a nattily dressed engineer ascending to the cab, and finally, the Gulf, Mobile & Ohio's minimal engine servicing facility in New Orleans, with Alco cab units in residence.







Next week, the first unit coal train on the Apalachicola Northern in 1982.

I seem to be on a D&RGW roster kick these last few weeks.


D&RGW M-78 class 4-8-2 #1512 heading out of Denver, Colorado on May 28, 1933.  The 10 Mountains of the M-78 class had a trailing truck booster and mustered 78,000 pounds of tractive effort.  These locomotives were jacks of all trades and saw service throughout the Rio Grande system.

looks like a wide cab SD something.

Yes its sort of a scaled down SD40 with wide cab. There were only 10 of them ever built - for the State system in Victoria in 1978. After several years in storage, most of them have been returned to service in the last couple of years with a private operator.
