Well, it's Thursday afternoon again, time for some more prototype photos. Mine this week are from the 10th Anniversary Birthday Party of Amtrak in Washington Union Station in 1981:

Took this yesterday down the street, another re-built bottle car.

 At the very last minute on Saturday I decided to take the hour and a
half trek to Brunswick, Maryland. I drove three hours to railfan for two
and a half! Hehe. What the hell! As usual, well worth it. I caught a
bunch of fallen flag cars including CHESSIE hoppers and this crusty
relic from the SP days...a weatherer's DREAM.



 These two tracks enter the Brunswick yard on the river side. Three
other tracks enter the yard on the town side which is only about fifty
yards away. You park in the middle and have trains on both sides. It's
sweet.



 This highway bridge crosses over the above mentioned tracks and
parking lot and cuts right into the heart of Brunswick. Go the other way
and you cross the Potomac River and enter West Virginia...another
state I love.



 I don't normally have more than a couple pictures but I haven't posted
in awhile so bear with me. Here's another cool, old car.



 FINALLY, I saw my very first CSX "Coke Train"! It was the fastest train
of the day so my pictures are a bit fuzzy. I need to upgrade the camera
for sure. It was overcast until the very end, just before sunset. I never
saw these cars before. The train was mostly cars like this but also three
standard height D&RGW quad hoppers were mixed in! They all had
original reporting marks too. Anyway, I wonder if these cars are
modified ex-coal hoppers OR were they manufactured like this
specifically for coke service. I admit, I know nothing about them.

Jeff (MrKLUKE), please take a close look at the gray car next to your subject in this photo. Did you happen to notice the reporting marks?



I have never seen "non-terminating ends" with "darts" in the corrugations like this car. Wonder who built it? Anyone else around here have any idea? Very unusual, as it is a throwback to much earlier designs.  ???

Here is a shot of three GPs working a local in Bassett, Va, back in June. Also of interest is the NW caboose, which was the first car in this manifest train. Normally, the trains I see in Bassett are unit coal trains. This train had boxcars and covered hoppers in it, and perhaps a tank or two if I remember correctly.

CSX continues to work on the new interlocking .. this week, they cut the #2 track, and put in a shoe fly .. #1 track is connected to #2, and the new track that they put in, is now connected to #1 ..

Apparently CSX is running Q171/174 with 4 axle power thru Union Station, bypassing the Anacostia bridge
