It's John Mifflin Hood, the legendary president of the WM.  He was responsible for getting the city a healthy return on its investment in the Western Maryland I think by selling it to the Gould interests.

Yes, he is facing east instead of west.  The WM's headquarters had been in the Standard Oil Building (now yet another stupid condo project) across the street.  I think he stood in front of that facing west before the plaza was reconstructed in the 50's.

As for Maryland being run by communists, I thought that was common knowledge.  You should see the party boys doing flips and twists trying to unseat our first republican governor in 40 years...  Not to be overtly political, but we have had the Blue State Blues for decades...

I had actually checked out the apartments in "The Standard". They're pretty nice, but I don't think worth what they're asking for them.

That sounds pretty overt to me ...   :-X

Let's flip that over:

"As for Maryland being run by fascists, I thought that was common knowledge.  You should see the party boys doing flips and twists trying to keep our first republican governor in 40 years...  Not to be overtly political, but we have had the Red State Rash for a few years..."

Big critter of some kind from a local steel plant. This critter is currently at the PA Trolley Museum.

To be absolutely correct, it was classified as built by Baldwin-Westinghouse. B-W built a number of end cab and center cab 400-800 HP Diesel-Electrics for steel companies in the 1930-32 era, long before model numbers were assigned. There is a very similar center cab model in Walter Lucas' Pocket Guide to American Locomotives, published by Simmons-Boardman in 1953. That one was operated by U.S.Steel's Northampton & Bath.
