Tank Train info and OMYA Kaolin tank cars and ACF hoppers

I mentioned seeing a few white tank train cars, hoses and all, on a train as I was sitting at the crossing today. A general net search on the phrase tank train turned up way too many Thomas the tank train entries, so I was hoping perhaps someone here could point me to a good site about these cars.

Thanks

PS: Changed the topic to reflect all the OMYA discussion in this thread.

Thanks, I couldn't find tank train pictures there, but did find pictures of these tank cars that were in the same consist as the others:

I also saw some of what I think of as 'ACF hoppers' [the longer style 3/4 bay rounded side hopper] with the same OMYA logo on them. The tank cars carry limestone slurry, what would the hoppers carry, just crushed limestone?
Here's a picture of them, or ones that looked like what I saw:

The second photo just happens to be the same road # that Atlas released in their ACF Pressureaide Center Flow 4-Bay Hopper.

I think Atlas also released the OMYA Kaolin tank car, but I'm not certain.

Yes, Atlas did the OMYA cars (the Kaolin tankcar)... I have several. If they are on a CP train in the east, they are loaded at the OMYA plant in Perth, Ontario. CP train #153 (if it is still running under that number) usually picks up a block of them. A container train with a head-end block of tankers... only on CP!

Could be because the photographer was none other than Rob Pisani of Atlas.  ;D

So should we take a hint for future models from Atlas based on pictures they take out railfanning?  :P

I don't know about hints of releases, but was pleasantly surprised to see many photos by Paul Graf (sp?) of Atlas also on that site. Could be why they actually seem to listen when you talk about cars and what you like and dislike about the Atlas products when you talk to them at train shows, they actually are train people.

As far as what train it was, I was in Cohoes NY (just North of Albany) watching the train going North. It was a Soo GP or SD something (didn't see how many wheels on the trucks and its all too new to me) followed by a pair of CP rail ones (without the multimark) then about a half dozen of the OMYA slurry tankers, a pair of OMYA ACF cars, a few more OMYA tankers, a half dozen of the Tank Train cars that started this thread (and for which I really would like more info) then a few ugly, plain and filthy boxcars, 4 empty centerbeams a few more boxcars including the odd CP mentioned in another thread and 1 more ugly plain boxcar with a non-working EOT (at least I couldn't see it lit up). Very intersting consist to say the least. Sure ain't like what I saw as a kid.  :o

There is a ultra mar refinery or something near Quebec City that uses white or light grey tank train cars. Maybe you saw some of those?

If there were OMYA slurry tankers and OMYA ACF cars on a northbound train just north of Albany on the CP/D&H it's a good chance they were heading back to Vermont Rail System at Whitehall, NY for loading at the OMYA plant at Florence, VT.  OMYA is there biggest customer.

That sounds like where all the OMYA cars were headed then, but...

What about the Tank Train cars? And are there pics anywhere of white ones like I saw instead of the 'normal' black ones I'm used to?

Ontario Hydro has a oil fired power plant in Bath, Ontario (west side of Kingston) that is fed by tanktrain sets that come up from the Port of Albany to Montreal via CP, and Montreal to Bath via CN. I know this because several years ago a CP train hit a washout near Lake Champlain (wrecked a NYSW B40-8) and they detoured several trains to and from Montreal - US Northeast via Buffalo... I caught the tank train at Newtonville on CN, struggling with 60-75 cars only two SD40-2's. That train was all black tankers, and when I was at Bath last summer, they unloading loop was full of black tankers as well. Could it be Ultramar/CN equipment being used for Bath oil?

This picture shows the white CN cars http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=143597

Sorry, I should have mentioned this in my last post.  Vermont Rail System also receives the white/grey TankTrain cars  at Whitehall for delivery to ExxonMobil in Burlington, VT where they are unloaded.  They are loaded in the Albany area.

Ok, that explains why there were in a consist I saw in Cohoes (tiny town about 8 miles N of Albany). And thanks for the picture of white cars, but I know I'd have remembered a big CN wet noodle on the sides. All these cars had were Tank Train. Grimy, dirty white, nothing else.

Now those sound like the ones I saw. Any help with pics, you folks have managed to point me to most of the other things mentioned in this thread.
