Some shots of the Nickel Plate Road's steam power, taken at Bellevue, Ohio, on August 29, 1957:

C'mon, let's see a little more participation. I know I'm not the only one with old or new photos!  8)

Railroad pic of one of N&W's 2nd order of SD40s delivered in the then new stark "NW" scheme. Note the dash-2 style dynamic brake housing:

So I went out yesterday to get some GMD-1 photos and came back with these.

The GMD-1 was at Ohio Central's facility in Youngstown Ohio right next to the Center Street bridge. Down the same bridge is the crossing of CSX & NS:

Now with the bridge in the background, a CSX coke train:

and this over the Xing:

Back at the Ohio Central shops on the other end of the bridge. I got my GMD pic's as the OC "trash train" went by on the old Lake Erie & Eastern. It was headed over to the old P&LE gateway yard to leave the cars for CSX to pick up. I chased the train out that way, got tons of pic's, but trees kept getting in the way and I wanted to get all 4 locomotives in the shot. At the far east end of what was gateway the train stops, cuts the cars, and does a runaround. Here they stop the crew walks from one end of the 4 locomotives to the other for the trip back. The rear (now front) loco must of been shut off, because I heard them start it up with a big puff of smoke. This is just as this NS (on the CSX) passes by:

Now I realize the OC locomotive's are headed back and I know just the spot for a photo... or so I though. I wanted to get them crossing over a bridge, but the girders would have hidden half. I did see another CSX here though. You can see the bridge girders at the bottom of the photo:

Never fear, I know another photo spot from another overpass, but first this NS needs to pass by before the OC can cross over the NS and head home:

See the old bridge in the backgound? Match it with these old photos:

http://www.ohiohistory.org/etcetera/exhibits/ohiopix/images/AL05595_lrg.jpg
Too bad all that's gone now.
Finally the OC crosses and I get my money shot:

The OC locomotives:
8713  GP11 ex. IC
706    GP10  ex. SP
7574   GP10  ex. Conrail
8702    GP11  ex. IC
After a short trip up the old LE&E the train will pass onto old Youngstown & Southern tracks for a trip south to a old coal mine that is being filled with "trash" (construction debris) The Y&S used to work the other way, bringing coal to Youngstown, usually pulled by three 45T boxcab electric's! Those would have been the days had I been around back then.

Red Rock, where was that taken? The part of the underpass to the right looks like it was once used by an interurban or streetcar line. If it is in Indiana would not surprise me at all. We had one like that under our line in Huntington, IN.

The train is coming down the Monon lead at the north end of the NS Louisville KY yard (Youngtown yard). I never thought of streetcars. I've seen some old photos of this spot at track level, but none from this spot. I'll have to dig further. Thanks. :)

Saturday, July 15 at 8 a.m., Hagerstown Y at the Roundhouse Museum...

I ended up being late to my computer training on account of those guys!  I wonder what brought them through Hagersburg?  I'm assuming it was a move from the B&O at Cherry Run to get over the NS somewhere.  It was coming off the WM main onto the old N&W interchange track.

I wonder if the WLE has to pay royalties to Uncle Pete for that paint scheme?

Some bumble bees from Down Under (all pics Copyright: Wes Sutton)

Most of Genesee & Wyoming' Australian operations (Australian Railroad Group) were bought out by one of the bigger players here and the remnants of ARG that have stayed with G&W have been rebranded 'Genesee & Wyoming Australia (GWA)'. The first loco to carry the new logo was 2216 (an EMD product)seen at the Dry Creek shops in Adelaide. The gent on the left is the Australian manager Bert Easthope and on the right is G&W Chairman & CEO Mortimer B Fuller III.

Taken back in April, GM42 leads two larger EMD 'bulldog' units on a local transfer from Dry Creek to Port Adelaide where they will make up their overnight Adelaide to Melbourne intermodal service.

GWA operate a 3'6" gauge railway for the local steelworks at Whyalla in South Australia. DE9 is a former EMD G12 export model that was heavily rebuilt by MK in the mid-90s and is taking empties back to the mine at Iron Duke..
