Transformer Load

Hey gang!
This is a transformer scratch built from styrene and held onto a flat car
with rods.

 
Do you think it needs more detail?

I don't know if transformers are shipped with or without the insulators, etc.  I would research that and add them if necessary.

Also maybe some crates at the ends of the flatcar for equipment that would need to be installed at the site.

I looked at some photos and used them as a guide, but I didn't copy anything directly. I would have liked to but I couldn't find good enough photos or most transformers looked too complex.

Did't some post a link to transformer loads at one time?

Great Job!! I don't think it needs anything else other than some crates on the ends like someone else had said.

Looks very good so far. It needs some heavy wood blocking at the base of the transformer. If the floor of the flatcar is steel, there should also be wood under the transformer. As far as insulators, etc., what is put on at the factory depends on the clearances of the assembled load. It is cheaper to add the insulators at the destination than pay the additional charges for a dimensional load.

I do know a little about these as GE's Medium Transformer Division at Rome, GA, was my account in the mid-1970's. Theirs weren't that big, though.

I got some excellent shots of some KRL flats from that photographer. Take the time to peruse his shots, you should find some load that comes close to matching yours and you'll have all the details you need.

That photographer actually used to be my housemate until last September. I lived at his place for 2 years.

Generally shipped with out...due to breakable nature.
