Mr Weldon @wm3798  asked be almost two years ago if I could model this building for him to replace a stand in ..  The file he sent me was a bit too messed up, so I ended up redrawing it from scratch ..

Next up is printing this sucker ..

Love it.

Are you going to do him a solid and print the doors and windows separately, are DPM it and give him the fun of masking and painting?

I have it laid out both ways .. DPMish  and extra parts versions .. The test just came off the printer and wash - will let it dry over night then test fit the windows and doors

Finished ..

The client added some change orders - blow out a wall, add some itty bitty windows, move the loading dock back where the plans said they should be , add some supports for the floors  etc .. On Property Brothers change orders cost money .. wait till he gets the bill :)

Doors and windows are separate parts to help with painting .. some cleanup and filing required

This took about 4 hours to print because of the extra to account for the sloped hill and road it's going to get installed in

I actually prefer them already printed in the model -- after priming and painting , I use sharpie pens to paint the window frames .. works pretty good ..

Looking good!

However, after a second look I don't see window sills or a similar item over the window (cant think of a name) which would keep the bricks above from falling down into the window opening. I suppose those can be easily added with strip styrne, but why not 3-D print them with the rest of the building?  :)

I'm also curious why the brick surface appears to be tiled from small interlocked brick areas.  Why is that?

Well, I could give you some BS answer :) .. but the truth is it didn't matter here - the opening is wide enough to put some separate window prints in - and in N scale it's not obvious at normal viewing ..

That's just how I do it ..  I have some bits and pieces I use over and over to create various walls, such as brick, siding, corrugated etc ..  and add enough together to cover the wall .. which I then turn into a stencil .. sometimes I don't get the alignment completely correct ..   In this case, I drew this in N scale, which was a little more difficult to manipulate .. I try to work in a larger size to make it easier to align --

Usually, once a model is primered and painted its pretty hard to see

Thanks for the question - I'm still learning, and don't use Fusion360 or one of the other more high end tools that would probably improve it ..

If you can put up with Jimmy -- this is pretty much what I do ..

 start at about 5 minute

Hope that helps ..

Your welcome .. keeps us honest :)

His technique is pretty good .. but doing brick adds a lot of size to the files, and gets a little hard to manipulate .. see the other threads on the topic around here somewhere

Thanks John. I understand how the brick details add complexity to the file.  I have been peeking into the brick thread in this section of the forum.

I'll be adding things to the building once I get it into the workshop.
I've got a ton of strip stock and details for the walls, roof and interior I'll be adding, as well as interior and exterior lighting.

I'll be interested to see how the brick texture compares to the old Holgate and Reynolds sheet I used on a neighboring building.
