IS this a Problem with MT Family Tree Series Composition?

The individual cars are wonderful, painting is excellent as usual, and the weathering effects continue to push the envelope. That said, you can't run all the cars in a Family Tree series in a prototypical consist - even allowing for known MT foobies based on body style or ride height. Would the composition make more sense without MOW reletterings? I originally saw these as ways to get 8-12 cars that could be found in a train for the modern consolidated Class 1 railroads, but I'd rather push an era issue and run a couple cars in the main road's scheme with older cars that were retired before modern times than throw on a car lettered for MOW service.

Or am I just being a run a holic who needs to chill and realize an old MOW car rusting on a siding also contributes to operations on my layout?

That's exactly what I plan on doing with a few of the CSX series cars.  Either in a MOW train or sitting on a stub track in the yard

I look at them as individual items. For example, I picked up only the SAL Perfect Product Protection boxcar and ACL boxcar from the CSX series, with no intention of buying the entire series.

Those car sets are made for collectors, not for runners.    ;)

I'd say just buy the pieces that fit your time period. Honestly, I wish somebody would do a similar series in HO.

When the CSX set was announced, I only zeroed in on 3 or 4 cars.  As each one came out and I saw them in person, well, I'll be damned, they came home with me.  The other family tree series haven't gotten my attention but I did see the new BNSF 2 bay covered hopper today and if it shows up at the shop, I'll probably pick it up

I have gotten a few of the cars that represent pieces that exist in my modeled timeframe, several of the CSX series showed reporting marks prior to CSX which worked for me and my time frame. But the ones with BNSF or CSX marks are two modern. An older car still showing Seaboard marks or one of the merger that lead up to CSX works though.
