I had this old battle wagon the other day. “Steam” gauges, original head end box and OEM Santa Fe seats intact. Stopped for a meet at Glen Haven, WI 2/10/23. Hard to believe they are just about 30 years old.

From what I understand, the scrap yard.

Might be coming my way. I'd keep an eye out, but if they're already on UP I suspect they'll be routed ex-C&EI, where I don't have a convenient observation post.

NRE is in the next town over. Given that the gensets were their recycled baby to begin with, maybe they're taking them back in for a second go-round with updated batteries and other stuff, especially control electronics, their Achilles' heel.

They've been sitting in Salt Lake North Yard for at least a year if not two.

Edit

Well maybe not, there's been a trio sitting out there that have a ton of graffiti on them but looking at streetview, the engine numbers are different.

Australian Rail Track Corporation's track geometry test train  crosses the Murray River at Murray Bridge, South Australia, on 17 February 2023. Hauled by privately owned, former NSWGR loco, 42103 working with Southern Shorthaul Railroad's GM10. Both the locos and loco crew are a long way from home in New South Wales, the latter enjoying a panoramic view of the flooded Burdett Swamp - a very unusual occurrence.

You all fail - no one wanted to keep rewriting Eleanor Rigby with me. A pox on your houses.

Caught this fella at the end of my drive to the John Deere Harvester Works in Moline this morning. Also saw an EJE unit working the yard in Waterloo but couldn’t get a picture. Hell of a time for a business trip to Midwest though!

That Western Maryland switcher outside the shop makes me think CSX and BNSF really need to do some heritage units.
And the door it opens is the way back in
Or is it the way back out?
